This has not got anything to do with Saints but its to put my point across that i hate big money transfers.....

Cristiano Ronaldo said he would need to be paid £400,000 per WEEK for him to go to Man City.

This is gettig beyond rediculous and just think, he could earn more in a week than some people throughout their whole life, and no doubt he wont give any of that money to charity either.

Still though. Asking for £400,000 a week is plain stupid. But Money does't buy you happiness. But then again id rather be unhappy in my 20m mansion.

They do say they deserve the money though (not that much) but it think Robin Van Persie or another Arsenal player said that they never have much time for themselves or have no privacy to be able to enjoy the money that they earn, but yeah hes on like 70 or 80K, no where near 400k.

these footballers dont live in the real world. normal people work 60 hours a week for a miniscule percentage of what these footballers get a week.

Also saw this earlier from a former BBC Football reporter now working for the PA:

"Ronaldo tells 'friend' Man City sent him a pic of a Bentley with piles of cash in it to try to lure him to Eastlands. Extraordinary."

If someone offered me £400,000 a week to play for Man City I'd say "No thanks"

    Yeah, right!

If people are stupid enough to pay it, why not take it? He'd still be an annoying little ****

TBF, He doesn't want to move (who would want to go from Madrid to Manchester, leaving aside Real is his boyhood club). What he is saying though is everbody has their price. e.g. an oil worker may not want to work in Libya, but may consider it if he was offered dounble his salary. £400,000 may seem obscene, but he is probably on about £200,000 per week as it is (and tax is lower in Spain). That is the market. If you don't like footballers earning that, then don't pay for Sky and don't go to matches. If you do pay for those then you have no right to complain.

A wise man once said to me " Nobody, but nobody gets paid what they deserve. They all get paid as much as they possibly can".

IF Man City signed him on those wages, they'd not be able to play in any UEFA competitions as £20Mpa plus the wage bill they already have will see them fall foul of all the new financial rules.

Oh come on, do you really think UEFA will enforce the fair play rules? All it will take is Real or Barca to say '**** off, we'll spend what we like' and they will be scrapped.

I agree with Wisescummer. If you are paying as much for 1 months TV as the licence fee gives you for a year, without commercials, then you are fuelling the hyper-inflation in players wages. At the end of the day, the clubs earn megabucks from the TV deals and the players should expect their cut from that.
I find it hard to believe that anyone would actually turn down a 3 year employment contract which would see them financially independent for life. Who would be that dumb? Even if you thought it obscene, why wouldn't you kick a pigs bladder around for a few years, and then devote your time to VSO or some other worthy cause.
The stupid contracts are not the fault of the players. They have a short career which could be over after after one bad tackle. I don't blame them, but I do expect them to put something back into the local community.

You know what, I actually do. Ordinarily I'd be just as cynical and suggest that the big boys will always get their own way. However, I've read a fair bit on the subject and sat through some excruciatingly boring presentations online and they seem pretty watertight to me. They even include "reasonable pricing structures" so that the likes of Abramovich can't just charge himself £10m for a parking space and then call it revenue!

Another factor is that the clubs with these issues are primarily English and their behaviour is having a detrimental impact across the game in Europe. I think Platini's UEFA is far more likely to take action than Blabber's toothless FIFA. Anyway, we'll see eh!
