Heard this being discussed on TalkSport at lunchtime ... interesting to hear different perspectives. My view;- Manchester City for me - overall deserved to win the Prem title over the season and played some scintilating footie - and I never expected to see a team of Sir Alex's get stuffed 6-1 at home. Chelsea - if they had won the Champions League final in normal play rather than penalty shoot-out then their acheivement might just have shaded it for me - as it was, they were outplayed for most of ther game (as indeed they were in both legs against Barcelona in the semi) and gave me the feeling that they didn't mind it going to penalties from the outset. .... when we get to the Champions League final in the next 3 or 4 years I really hope that we show that we are THE team through the group stages to the final - and then win the final with a veritable feast of silky football ... .
For Man City winning 6-1 at Man U was the difference between 1st and 2nd. Had they only won 1-0 Man U would of won the league. Although it doesnt make any difference they only finished level on points with Man U Chelsea have done brilliantly to win the champs league. They looked dead and buried numerous times. 2 nil down with 10 men at the Nou Camp and not only holding on but coming back to get a draw. And all be it the final is at a neutral venue Chelsea went to Bayern Munich who was at home and won it Chelsea is the bigger achievement for me
Has to be Chelsea. Man City were favourites to win the league whereas who gave Chelsea a chance after returning from Italy 3-1 down after Napoli stuffed 'em? A mate of mine put a tenner on them to win it at that moment and he's just won himself a very tidy bonus.
Most other seasons, that points total would have been enough to win Man Utd the league so that tells you how well City have done to pip them. And the attacking football they played was great to watch at times. But Chelsea have showed great character and spirit to win the Champions League. To come back, with 10 men, in the Nou Camp and then hold on and defend as well as they did was a miracle in itself. And then to go to Munich and do it all over again was impressive. However, I've always said that league titles are harder to win than any Cup competition as they test you more as a team and therefore it's Man City by a whisker.
The title race has been between 2 teams all season with Man City just nicking it at the end. No great shock considering that they have the best squad and Man Untd have had one of the worst teams in years. When AVB left Chelsea they were in disarray. They beat Barcelona (one of the gretest teams ever) over 2 legs and then go onto beat Bayern Munich in their own back yard. Check out Bayerns home record. In the penalty shoot out the Chelsea players then have to take their kicks with the Bayern fans behind the goal. Truly remarkable.
