With all the stuff going on regarding Coote, I thought about various referees that have officiated the game through the years and this guy has to be the best referee the game has ever seen IMHO. Not many referees can claim ‘legendary’ status, but this guy can
Look at those eyes because they told players in matches that he refereed that he would stand no nonsense - and he didn't. Probably the best referee I have seen.
Collina took no nonsense Back in the day there were the likes of Clive Thomas who disallowed a goal in a World Cup game in maybe 1974 ? I also used to like Roger Kirkpatrick and Uriah Rennie
The days are long gone where the players had respect for the officials and today's constant complaining to the referee by too many players is spoiling the game for a lot of people. VAR has added to the mix by giving us even longer discussions on whether or not a foul or offside has been committed and that also has added confusion and even anger from all sides. I watched a game a couple of weeks ago where VAR was not in use and the referee had a great game and there were few, if any, complaints from the players involved. I wonder what Pierluigi thinks of the modern officiating?
