This was disappointing. Gills had their noses in front for the first half hour with Loft running the show, Jackson and Garmston tearing down the flanks and Macdonald looking sharp again. Osilaja was unlucky running towards his own goal with the ball coming over his shoulder and he had to have a go at heading clear but the ball crept into the goal. Then Gills really raised their game and for 10 minutes it looked like it would be a goal feast and Cody's goal just had to come. It was worth the trip just to witness this period. 1-1 at half time but Gills were dominating. The second half started like the first half ended and Jackson's cracking goal was no surprise. There was a gale blowing and torrential rain all favouring Gills by this time so it looked like the goals were going to flow but they didn't and with too many upfield Shrewsbury broke away and sneaked a goal. Cody hit the post but Shrewsbury clung on. What a disappointment and what an injustice! On reflection it was foolhardy not to shut up shop once our noses were in front in these difficult conditions. That was Edinburgh's decision and not the fault of the team who really did play like a team. No bad performances even with Samuel looking a laughing stock in his gloves and appearing to be struggling without a scarf and earmuffs, at least he grew up a bit as the game went on. Excellent performance by Gills, far better than in some of the recent games that have been won. No substitutes but that reflected the game, who could he have taken off?
I never went, but a point is point in our push for promotion and no matter how we achieve it sometimes, each one of those points is valuable, there will be times we should have got all three and other times when we deserved nothing, but our second place, shows we are being more consistent than all but one other league side (Coventry). We are not even at the half way stage yet, and already only 5/6 wins from securing League One status for 2016/17...I think Mr Scally will be a very happy man just with that thought for now, certainly makes planning the finances easier.
Shrewsbury keeper was man of the match. We probably should have won - but didn't kill the game when we were 2-1 up -- and our players often found that they were in each others' way in the penalty box - with a few of our shots actually blocked by our players ! http://www.skysports.com/watch/vide...gillingham/10083098/shrewsbury-2-2-gillingham
