Morning All! Just a quick post to get off the mark! What a great forum, and I love all the extra stuff goin' on. Have just come off 'SaintsPlayer' where I have been listening to Nicola Cortese talking about Markus Liebherr ( R.I.P ) and their Saints Project, and felt compelled to comment on what a pleasure it is being owned by the Liebherr family, and run by Cortese, who is without doubt, a class act. Really looking forward to the new season!
Thanks, fatletiss Created using decals by a very talented guy in Italy. He has just recently sent me the away version too.
It's the line-up that defeated Liverpool 2-0 in the first televised Friday night game at The Dell.
Welcome mate! We all have high hopes for the season and hopefully the long awaited return to the Prem!!!
Do you still play? I put a post up a few weeks back and therre are loads who remember and still have the greatest game ever. I still play at 41!!!
How long you got...... As a matter of interest how old are you? All the players are on a semi-circular place with a slightly flattened bottom. The team play on a felt pitch (like a snooker table covering) and you "flick" the player with you rindex finger while only having the middle and ring finger touching the cloth. You aim your playe at a small plastic ball to move the ball up the pitch by passing to your other players. Each time you have a flick, the opponent can have a defensive flick to try and prevent you passing or moving forward. Each individual figure can only have 3 touche of the ball before another figure must be used. There is a shooting area about a quarter of the way up the pitch that you have to be in to shoot at goal; this prevents you whacking the ball form anywhere. The above makes it sound naff, but it is real old school fun.
I'm 44, fatlettiss Got back into the game about a year and a half ago. Was planning to do a website for collectors at the time, and got hooked all over again. Hadn't played for about thirty years before that. It's still the greatest football game ever. I live in South Oxfordshire, and have travelled to Berkshire, Milton Keynes and Wycombe for tournaments in the last year. It's very relaxed, and a pretty good social gig. ( Don't wake up in the morning £100 lighter in the wallet, and sporting a hangover from hell, at least ) Do you play in competitions, fatletiss?
Ha ha.... i used to have the video for that 1990 World Cup. Is it the one where the Italian kid lost it because the French lad tried to cheat?
The modern game is played with much lower bases. They're great for long plays and chipping the ball over the keeper. It's a faster game, but you don't see so much of the old trademark curling plays.
I don't play in comps, but would love to, though some of these new fangled teams with the wide bases look pretty tough to play against. I'm Northampton based, so not too far for a Saints Subbuteo get together. let me know if you ever need transport to the games... I'll be going down the A34.
