Was looking forward to seeing Mutch`s goal again tonight on BBC Wales sport report but what did we get , blink and you missed it!!!!! Crap report, just showed a 5 second clip with no first goal or even their screamer.................to top it all we had about ten times the time on the egg chassers!!! What we have to do?,my english mates thought it stank as well so its just not us thinking that.
The BBC don't have the rights to show any Prem goals except on MOTD. Wouldn't bother http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7RMIp8J8qTE
Rugby will always be BBC Wales first sporting love. They think if you are welsh, then you are bound to like to see grown men chucking a large peanut shaped ball around, and grappling with each other in a show of strength. Rugby is a game of little skill compared to football. The very fact rugby players can use their hands whereas footballers cannot speaks volumes (hence the name of course but it does put it into perspective.) Watch the time and space they devote to a series of boring autumn internationals.
Very unfair assessment that. We all have different tastes. Plenty of people regard football as a load of over paid people kicking a stupid ball around. I'm a fan of both. Football is very much my first love but I attend as many Dragons games as possible too. The regular filling of a near 80k capacity stadium at £65 a head proves BBC Wales are correct to believe that the Welsh public have a very strong interest in Rugby. I will agree that by its very nature Rugby rewards power over skill when compared to football, but the top class Welsh players are truly world class, as such to suggest they have 'little skill' is very unfair in my opinion. The ability to throw a pass perfectly in stride 20-30 yrds to a winger who is travelling at olympic sprinter pace is probably as difficult as threading a slide rule pass between a centre back and full back anyway to be honest.
Wouldn't want to start to compare "skill levels" between the two games, but I haven't been able to watch rugby for enjoyment for many years. Those that can these days must be blessed with some sort of spectator appreciation that escapes me totally. If you take out the "nationalistic" thing and get down to everyday club stuff, the game is no more than a parochial pastime for the sworn enthusiast. It borders on the tribal past, and the only thing missing are the spears and clubs. The only reason we see major crowds for the said internationals is because they're swollen disproportionally by the couple of times a year hangers on who laud it at these games like wearing some sort of badge of honour. Don't get me wrong - to each his own, but the Welsh media bias toward rugby certainly does exist, and is promoted in the main by dinosaurs within it who will not admit that the Jurassic period has ended. No problem with that. Perhaps we should get Richard Attenborough to find a home for them - now what could we call it?
Or it's a game full of passion, skill, power and many more impressive demonstrations of the reasons people the world over watch sport. The vast majority of my family wouldn't bother turning the tv over to watch football. They watch rugby because they enjoy the sport, nothing more or less really. You can't compare the 2 sports. I just feel that to dismiss the massive support Rugby has in this country whilst dismissing the skill levels required to be world class at such a huge sport is more than a little short sighted. If its not for you that's more than fine, doesn't mean the people who like/love the game are wrong or do so for the what you perceive to be the wrong reasons.
Stevoo have to disagree with the numbers that attend the egg chassing game ,ok on an international day in Cardiff its a day out for many and you seen the mess they leave our town in and we as tax payers have to pay for it!! They get dressed up in red nd white, pissed as farts on Allbright and most dont even know the team squad ................how many the league clubs get a week?. Very happy to have Wales as a top nation in rugby but please please do not make the mistake as they are the best supported sport in this land, its too old school and times are changing thank evans ...............................;O)
I'm not looking to have a huge rugby isn't **** thread so for my last point on this. The support is spread throughout a huge number of clubs. Wales has a ridiculous amount of sides which can draw crowds in the 00's. ok the regional support is average at best but add the Premiership crowds then all the fans from the local sides and a lot of people watch rugby every week. If a fan attends all Wales home matches including autumn internationals the financial commitment would be similar to our ST's. As I said at the start, I'm very much a football fan, rugby comes a distant 2nd but I'm very proud of the fact Wsles are world class at rugby. I'm gonna get back to football now, I've derailed this thread enough already.
Thank goodness for that - I was thinking about posting a political comment to change the subject.... No offence meant Stevo. I'm glad your family enjoy the sport and I'm sure there are many more like them - it's just not for me. Nevertheless, whether you are a fan of rugby or not, there is no question that the OP's point is a valid one. The Welsh Media are hugely biased toward the egg, and it's press and airtime promotion is disproportionate when set against that for football. Just an opinion of course. Now everyone, back to Cardiff City FC and the wonderful game of "soccer" PLEEEAAASSE!!
Played the game for 24 years and enjoyed every minute of it. When I lived in Bristol I used to watch the Welsh clubs against Bristol as long as it didn't clash with me playing and have done the same when Welsh regions play Sale now I live in Cheshire. Regularly watch the Southern Hemisphere club games and internationals on Sky (looking forward to SA vs NZ this weekend). Skill, technique, fitness and strength are all part of the game. Totally different from football but equally enjoyable. Another big difference is the money in the game. Jamie Roberts, widely regarded as one of the best centres in the world and who has just become one of the top 10 paid players in France (where salaries are muctch higher than in the UK) is earning £34k.........a month! A huge salary when compared to the average working man, but a pittance when compared to pretty average premiership footballers. In summary, all we have acheived again is to show that some of us on here like football and rugby and others don't. Also that they are differen't games.
Rugby was a magnificent sport when it was amateur. I was fortunate enough to have witnessed the early 70's welsh teams. The sport is unrecognisable now due to the requirement for even wingers and hookers to be 6 foot+ and 15 stone+ and looking like adverts for muscle supplements. It is all muscle and brawn when previously it was all about guile and being deft, balanced and adroit. None of this lifting in lineouts, no competing at scrums and all kick, kick and kick. The modern game leaves me cold irrespective of the welsh luvvies in the Beeb treating it like a national icon and assuming football is a game for commoners, and its fans are all hoolies.
I think you should sign Ignazio Abate, David Amoo and Ruud Boffin. Then you can have Mutch-Amoo-Abate-Boffin as a line-up
The many millions of pounds these people spend (and I'm one of them) in the capital on International days gives them every right to make a mess , but there will only be accidental damage and loads of happy drunks - allbright or other ... In fact it enhances the World's view on our beautiful Capital City ps I'm not derailling the thread as egg chasing is mentioned in the OP
So if Cardiff fans pissed in the sinks (as the egg chassers do, disgusting!!!) then made a frigging mess of the city centre im sure the news media would have a field day .Who says they have every right to do that???
6 Nations days are a nightmare. Drunken idiots barely able to walk fighting amongst themselves , stupid pink cowboy hats , Max Boyce on TV and pubs full of people who most weeks have no interest in the sport.
You obviously want an argument jh I've been to Wembley and saw City fans pissing in shop doorways at 1pm with people still in the shops please don't try saying we are all angels .... as we definately ain't
I'm a fan of Football, Rugby & Cricket but if all 3 were played on the same day, I'll be at CCS watching the Bluebirds.
Not at all Turk but can you imagine what the press would have to say if we left Cardiff city center in the filthy , disgusting, let the taxpayers sort it out mess its in ......i live there m8 and Caroline St is a tip ............we have xtra bins you know put on for the peanut huggers but NO it go`s on the street/pavement /shop doorways but its rugby nd its ok!!!.Sick and P every where ,on an average international match day it costs us the tax payers over £1 K to clean up , does the council charge City for the clean up match day ....................YEP
