And Bain actually thought he would get Sunderland promotion back to the Premier League. Is it any wonder we ended up in the clarts? I’m normally very forgiving when it comes to Sunderland managers but I said from day one that he was utter ****e and shouldn’t be anywhere near SAFC.

How anyone can sit in a room to interview that guy and then give him a job is utterly beyond me.

    Mental that.

What were they interviewed by? A border collie?

I actually felt sorry for him. Everyone except Bain realised he was massively out of his depth. He was then told to do the job with 1 hand tied behind his back.

Very much this. Once McInnes dropped out I don't think there were many other takers because of the mess we were in, so he kind of got it by default because he was supposed to be able to work on a shoestring and lay foundations. Yet it was clear after his first few weeks he was out of his depth, despite him thinking it was a great opportunity. Personally, I think Bain had one eye on his exit as well so it wouldn't surprise me if he appointed him knowing he was only likely to be a stop gap anyway.

I think Bain was also hindered by the fact Short wouldn't provide any cash. We we're losing money, owner had pulled the funds and Bain was left scraping around for cheap options.

This was all foretold by Moyes leaving and the comments he made on departure. Ultimately we still had players good enough not to go down. I believe the players are the number 1 reason we were relegated. Bad attitudes and it wasn't addressed.

Aye, he was ****e but with hindsight he never had a chance. Short had stopped funding, we had a load of players who didn't want to be here, a load of ****e coming in. I'm not sure anyone would have done a good job in the circumstances tbh

I agree. I don’t dislike the bloke. He was up against it from day one, so there has to be a bit of sympathy for him in that respect. My issue was more with Bain who appointed him in the first place.

I think he is at a club that is his level. Good luck to him, but not this year

He’ll do well there. Good luck to him, tried his best while here which I can’t fault him for.

Someone, at the time, posted that the appointment reminded him of when we gave Mick Buxton the job.

    Very shrewd.
