If anyone's interested, there's an e-petition around at the moment to force the government to pressure the PL to put more money into grassroots football.

Currently around 0.4% of the PL revenue goes on grassroots football, which is bollocks given the PL's new £5.5 billion broadcasting contracts are about to come into force. The petition requires the PL to spend 7.5%. So £400 million over three years would go on grassroots instead of around £22 million at the current rate.

I admire the idea but the level of increase being sought is noddy & it therefore makes it futile IMO

No wonder England are **** internationally. That's a tiny amount of money being spent on the area that's most important for player development.

Perhaps, but I think the obvious intention is to shame the PL into a meaningful increase. If they asked for 1%, the PL would probably just agree to compromise and raise the amount to 0.6% or something trivial. By pushing for a higher amount, there is a chance we may actually end up with a decent increase up to around 2%.

Some of the TV money should go to grassroots than into players/clubs pockets

I wish you all the luck mate, as the PL has a duty to support grass roots IMO. However, the PL clubs are that buried in debt, that they're all salivating at the prospect of another £25m + a piece being lobbed into the trough, you've got **** all chance of them moving their snouts out of the way to allow grass roots to get its head in
