The reason Real Madrid signed Granero was his fantastic displays for Getafe, managed by: Michael Laudrup!!!!
There is a rumour also flying around that we are linked with Kevin Prince Boateng ha ha somehow I don't think so
But Granero played for QPR .... how did he really perform for them. They were utterly crap. Whatever we pay for him, it should be discounted Spanish prices and not discounted British prices. He needs to prove himself again in my mind. ML may be the catalyst he needs, but I don't think we need a project and we don't need to be throwing money at QPR - the amount of crap they have given us over the years that's all they deserve back from us.
If Swans can get Granero at a reasonable Price, he has the potential to be a massive signing. Don't care about the QPR, care about Swansea! Granero is not your average player - he has the potential to be a TOP-TOP-player. Real Madrid don't buy crap....
I hear what you're saying, but the underlying premise is that Madrid made a good decision to start with. At QPR under Harry he had the chance to pair with Taarabt and do something in midfield - it never happened. Reports are that at QPR Granero was underwhelming. He only managed 24 appearances, scoring one goal and one assist. Unless he was injured, he couldn't even command a place in QPR's line-up. While at Madrid, they repeatedly bought players to place ahead of him instead of going with him - they saw / knew something or were looking for something and could not / did not see it. Finally, they found stupid money to the tune of 9 million pounds from QPR and got shot - good business to take a lemon and make ridiculously expensive lemonade. What would be a reasonable price to give away a roster place to a traveler who couldn't make it in a bottom of the table club ..... zero! Massive signing? Shelvey has the potential to be a very good signing - he is young and has years on his side. Granero is 26 .... he's at a point where it's almost as good as it's going to get .... perhaps already past the shelf date. All the other players we have acquired this season are young (Canas excepted) and commanding starting places on their previous teams. We have Ki who we should be bringing along in preference as a first / better priority.
Bit harsh when we all know QPR were crap, not even Suarez could have played well with QPR Plus they don't play like us, so maybe Laudrup knows Granero would suit our style of play.
Surely we cannot be in for more Mid-fielders???................ Please, please Huw STRIKERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! .......................... please log in to view this image
Qpr fan in peace. He was poor for us but he wasnt playing in a team he was playing with a bunch of individuals devoid of any pride. he did show the odd glimpses of brilliance at first so you could see he has the ability. Could be very good for you as the way you play would give him the space and time he didnt get at ours.
Granero or no Granero, it was interesting to note Laudrup's comments today about Jonjo Shelvey. He said that even after just a couple of days he can see that Jonjo is bringing something to our midfield that was missing before. He didn't explain exactly what but, amongst other things, I would guess that he's adding some bite and urgency there. Much needed and not before time. Perhaps he's the second snarling rottweiler I've been after - Canas being the other one. Seems that Laudrup considers he has almost completed the squad and has said that the club has delivered on his transfer requirements. Glad to see that things are amicable again and well done to the Board for displaying some sensible ambition. One target remains and that is a back up striker to Bony. Laudrup says that he is looking for someone with a different playing style, obviously to give us different options and a plan B. This is not to say that we won't bring in another bargain or two if they become available. Starting to get really excited now and the word I'm getting back from the club is that Laudrup is also pretty excited about the ability of his squad. Can't wait. Roll on the start of the season.
disagree more midfielders the better...they are very versatile players that usually can play other positions..
Well rounded perspective there Ivor, well said and I'm very pleased we finally got the board to display some sensible ambition too!......
If Granero is available for 3m and an acceptable salary Huw should sign him on the spot. Even though it's getting a bit crowdy in the midfield department it's simply to good an opportunity to pass. He is the only player I know of that have experience and capabilities in every single midfield position and done well. He is the manifestation of a versatile midfielder and he has been guided and trained by Laudrup, Pellegrini and Mourinho with great success. Sign him up!
