Granero: Hughes has backing of QPR squad 07/10/2012 by David McIntyre Esteban Granero insists boss Mark Hughes has the support of his players despite QPRâs dismal start to the season. There has been speculation about Hughesâ future given that Rangers are bottom of the table and without a league win following more big spending during the summer. But Granero, one of the clubâs eye-catching signings, says he and his team-mates are fully behind the manager. Hughes feels his job is safe. âWe know we have the best manager,â said the Spanish midfielder. âItâs not his fault â itâs our fault. Against West Ham he told us what would happen and it did. âItâs our fault â the people on the pitch. We are the ones who have to improve. The manager is doing great and for sure is the best manager.â Graneroâs goal in Saturdayâs 3-2 defeat against West Brom was his first for QPR, but a mere consolation following another shoddy performance from Hughesâ men. Hughes has bemoaned his sideâs poor defending and their shortcomings at the back were again exposed at The Hawthorns, particularly in the first half. The defeat came five days after a home loss against West Ham. âItâs a defensive matter. Iâm not talking just about the defenders but the whole team,â Granero admitted. âWe have to focus more and not concede goals, especially at the beginning of matches because itâs very important. We can play much better football if weâre not losing from the beginning. âWeâre worried because this is not where we want to be. We know we deserved more from this period because of the squad we have and our manager. We know we have to improve. âI didnât expect to be where we are, but I think weâre strong enough to turn it around. This has happened in the beginning but we have a long time to go. âIâm very happy here. The reality is weâre at the bottom but we have a long time to improve and do better. I want to be part of this.â
“I’m very happy here. The reality is we’re at the bottom but we have a long time to improve and do better. I want to be part of this.” he is starting to sound desperate
I noticed from the lengthy 3-part piece that Northy found that he doesn't go against the grain and is always on side with his managers. Not very revelatory unless he went out of his way to volunteer this information. Still, his attitude can only be good for the dressing room. The bit about Hughes warning them about the West Ham game at least shows the preparation and training are right.
