James Brent is talking about his Grandstand MK2 plans.....he admits that the Brentside development has left his multi cinema complex ideas dead in the water.

The talk now is in the planning stages for a new grandstand linked to an ice rink and possible hotel build.
He says that the climate is better than three years ago and he has a possible partner involved with this development ideas....which is being explored.

Mr Brent says that PAFC and the present Pavillion Ice Rink are both making small profits for the first time......and his other businesses are doing okay as well........this is a far cry from some of the doom and gloom merchants who have reckoned Argyle where heading for administration MK2.....nor enough info at present to know what size stadium he has in mind.....I hope he has taken onboard some of the "mini" grandstand comments regarding the earlier development.

Good news Plymborn. I doubt the stand will be much bigger: you can argue within a few thousand what the ground capacity should be but it all needs to be paid for and I wouldn't want to see the club lumbered with a load of seats that are empty 95% of the time.

I heard that there has been further talk about a SafeStanding area on the German model which could boost the capacity and arguably give a proportion of fans what they'd like: the right to stand at (presumably) a lower price. As far as I understand it, League regulations don't allow that but there is some pressure for a change.

Also, you may be interested to know that, due to the annual British 2 week long focus on tennis and the relative success of the England women's team in their World Cup, BBC Spotlight did voxpops in Plymouth this week asking what sports the person in the street would like to see covered on TV. An elderly lady suggested gardening but leaving that aside, one of the participants was a man, late 20's or early 30's, wearing a football shirt. He was asked if he was actually from Plymouth which he confirmed but qualified by stating he was a Man Utd fan. There's your problem right there...... I won't replicate here what I said to the TV as I could get banned.

Although something of a 'no news' story it is obviously a positive step. Confident we will have a new stand in 5 years time and I guess a capacity of something like 18-20000. I don't know the answer but I wonder what the predicted life of the horseshoe is? 30 years? 40 perhaps. As the oracle (my youngest) pointed out , surely we would be better relocating to an better site and build a brand new stadium from scratch- I wonder if the land where the airport used to be is up for sale. now that would be controversial! The main thing is that the club is no longer hemorrhaging large amounts of cash, that has to be largely due to JB and the CEO.

That will be plenty big enough for the time.. 18- 20 k.. When we were in the Championship we never hit those heights all the time.. the 1 st season back but it dwindled after that.
As for the airport, i would certainly object.. don't want that on my doorstep.:emoticon-0102-bigsm. once i move i won't mind... Plenty of room at Yelverton.. <laugh> There is enough traffic here now.. i suppose it would be easy for me to get there save the bus or drive.. :emoticon-0176-smoke

You mean you drive your own Roller Joe? Times must be hard in your business......<whistle>

I've never been one to clamour for 25000 plus although in fairness to those that do it was more or less what was indicated originally. An ability to expand would be more in keeping with me. We won't get anywhere near filling 25000 or even 20000 for a long while yet so it isn't needed. We have a unique site for a football ground in Central Park and I wouldn't want to see it lost although I know nothing is forever.

I've heard a lot of this before from Brent and lets be honest he failed on all of it with the exception of not chucking money at Argyle. He certainly got that right even if I can see the need. All I can say is he had better not blow it this time because his credibility is a tad thin already with a lot of people. However, another 5 years of looking at the derrelict site that is the Mayflower is not a prospect I look forward to. I think there is a softening towards standing areas again and I would like to see it happen. It's got little to do with cost and a lot to do with personal preference. I like standing to watch a match and always did. I'd happily pay the same as for a seat if I had to.

The Mayflower standing area is so important......an area for the home fans to get in the face of the away bench.....plus the pressure of the away team being hemmed in by supporting home fans near the touchline.....it ain't hard to workout....but lost on PAFC management.....will Adams comment about it and try and get something changed ?

It's more to do with league rules rather than what PAFC want. My head tells me I read somewhere that once you've gone seated you can't go back or some such rubbish. I can see why they won't put in seats we don't need as that would be stupid financially. It's the FA and or Government that needs to get real.
