Will anyone be putting a pound or two on the winner? It's not an event I'm massively keen on, and last year was a PR disaster, but it does seem some effort has been made to reduce the risks.

I actually had a pound each way on Ballabriggs last year, I may put one more on him- although I'm loathe to bet on the short odds. I'm always tempted by the three legged horse with a blind jockey offered at 2000/1.

Any tips (apart from don't bet :) )?

I'm not really a betting man and I know nothing about it, but you might not be aware that the not606 board has a horse racing section: http://www.not606.com/forumdisplay.php/151-Horse-Racing I'm sure that someone in there is some well-informed advice.

A few days ago the Big Issue seller at my train station was saying something about how he'll be able to pick the winner once the weights are announced (or something), given the heavy rain we've had this week. If he's there on my way home tonight I'm going to see if I can get a name out of him. I'll post it here if I get the chance. He's a nice bloke and he sounds like he knows what he's talking about on this one. Key phrase there is 'sounds like'.

    Betting as follows

Clint Demps Recently the ball allways seems to stick to his feet. " Treacle "

    J A Riise " Viking blond."

    Briggs " Ballabrigs"

A Johnson He never scores " Becauseicouldtsee"

    K Frei " Junior"

MJ With his team selection " Allways right"

Any other suggestions suitable for the GN. <cheers>

I know nothing of racing, or betting, so I think I may sit this one out.

Bad news, Silky, the Big Issue seller wasn't there this evening - you're on your own!

I've plumped for West End Rocker - I'm also going to put a small amount on Shakalakaboomboom, purely because of it's name.

Guess Sheila's Cottage (1948) would have been popular with Fulham fans back in the day.

I think i'll go for synchronised, I hate backing favourites but he won me a decent bit of money over Cheltenham. He's a natural jumper and with 40 fences ahead of him I think he will be too strong for the rest, Tony McCoy won this race last year and he is on him this year. 10 quid at 9/1 would be a handy 100 back. Could be a nice weekend for me.
