Sad to read that one of the old city legends Graham Moore has passed on. I was but a boy when he was at Ninian Park, but I remember him playing, and he became a Manchester United recruit doing quite well for himself. Another one of the boys gone! Amongst the most precocious young talents ever to wear a Bluebirds’ shirt, Moore shot to fame when, aged just 19, he netted the winner which saw Cardiff promoted to the top-flight of the English game in April 1960. Moore’s strike saw the Bluebirds beat Aston Villa 1-0 in front of 55,000 fans at Ninian Park. Cardiff were not to achieve promotion to the top-flight again for 53 years until they reached the Premier League under former-manager Malky Mackay. By the time he scored that winner for Cardiff, Hengoed-born Moore had already announced his arrival on the international stage having made his debut in October 1959 for Wales and scoring a late equaliser to earn a 1-1 draw with England in front of a record-crowd for an international at Ninian Park of 62,000. Moore’s effort that night had cancelled out an opener for the visitors by Jimmy Greaves. Moore went on to win 21 caps for Wales and, when he broke into the Dragons’ squad, he was like the Gareth Bale of his day, an exciting, attacking midfielder, able to ghost past men and with a deadly eye for goal. For his exploits for both Cardiff and his country, Moore was named Welsh Sports Personality of the Year for 1959. That goal against Villa...never found the answer as to why we were wearing all white attire!

Was in Yorkshire on a holiday in late 80's and called into a pub not knowing the barman I was talking to was Graham Moore; we ended up talking for a good while about modern football, which I recall he wasn't too impressed with.
