Sincerely hope you are right Maclad, he is still fit even though getting on in years and I have no doubt he would prove to be an asset to the club.
Vastly experienced in football and his presence would be of great benifit to the younger players, both on and off the field.
Done remarkably well for Burnley and although he obviously has a great deal of time for them, his heart is still at Deepdale.

Ideal if you get a few penalties, has he ever missed one?

Good luck next season PNE. If you did not have such a horrific start to the season it could have been so different for you.
Onwards and hopefully upwards for you <ok>

    Thanks TC

He has missed a few but not many, It's something like a 95% success rate. He's a true pro and knows our club very well so he'll slot in very nicely.

Good luck to yourselves next season, hope you do well up there. :D

Shame really as at one point I thought he was coming to Morecambe as manager. He must of wanted to carry on with his playing career a bit longer. Still think employing Bentley as manager was too soon.

Hi!! Curtis and pleased you found your way to not606.<ok>

A little surprised that Morecambe decided to change managers, but probably a good thing for Club and ex manager. You can be at a club too long sometimes and I suspect that was the case here. Things probably needed freshening up so I hope that Bentley can build on what SM has acheived. Best of luck next season.

Out of the 5 seasons we have been in the league we only had one bad one under Sammy. Unfortunately we lost heavily in our home & away matches which was Sammy's downfall, which was down to a mixture of deadwood brought in this season, the move to the new ground, starting 11 changing too much & subs not coming on at the right time, in which some of this was Sammy's downfall. Our board did offer Sammy a new two year deal after the season ended but he decided it was time to move on & let somebody else take over. Jim Bentley has been a great servant to our club & helped us stay in the league with his leadership & goals on the pitch, but moving from reserve team manager to first team manager in the space of just over a year is too soon in my opinion, when he has no experience of being first team coach at non league level first. Also would he be able to attract players of the calibre Sammy brought into the club, which we need to survive as a league two club. The backroom staff & number two coach need to have relatively good league experience in league football to maintain our league status. It is all very good doing it the cheaper way & gambling on inexperience, but in the long run it could cost us more in lost revenue if we were to fail. Graham Alexander would have been my ideal choice as he had more knowledge at a higher league standard to Jim. I am hoping that Jimbo brings in an experienced number two coach to work alongside him to help him when called upon. I am beginning to believe the rumours going around we are in a financial mess, when we had over 40 applicants applying for the post with more experience than Jim. Great bloke & a true leader on the pitch, but I hope is inexperience does not come and backfire on him.

I wish Preston all the best I am sure you will be back in the championship very soon plumber. <ok>

Alexander should never have left. It was a sin that he went to the dingles. Always been a personal favourite of mine..

We would do a lot worse than put Unsworth back to solely coaching the youngsters and make Alexander defensive coach.

No, he left after a season in the football league. Morecambe fans were stunned when he just left & never knew why he just left the club after many seasons with us in the non league. His son played for us at the same time then they never appeared again. I don't know where Dave is now, but last I heard was his son Lewis Edge played for AFC Flyde after leaving us but don't know if he is still there or moved on.
