Only in Northern Ireland would the government press ahead with a £300m project to build a "conflict transformation centre" to show tourists all the wonders of the trouble on such a controversial site. The project is planned to be built on the grounds of the former Maze prison where many loyalist and republican prisoners were locked up during the troubles. It is also the site were Babby Sands and his 9 mates killed themselves, creating a fear that this site will then become a shrine to them. A sensible solution would be to flatten the guard towers and prison hospital that still stands and build houses / a superstore or anything on it for that matter that has nothing to do with our shameful past. The DUP & Sinn Fein are pressing ahead with this insisting that it won't become a shrine but as one unionist politican pointed out, people can make anything a shrine. If someone is struck by a car at the side of a road a lampost or area of grass can become a shrine to that person. And do we really want people travelling from all over the world to go here and read about all the men, women and children murdered in cold blood most times. I for one don't. We are constantly being told by politicans to move on to a shared future but what the **** is this doing, keeping the barbaric murders fresh in the minds of everyone and teaching it to the next generation.
My pal just bought his da a new Celtic top. Cost him 67 quid I'm not sure if thats some pathetic attempt at connecting with a certain date or just a ****ing rip off.
