My local side, was thinking of going to this game just to see a proper derby, it's a shame my first year in Sheffield coincides with both teams being in League One, and unable to play Leicester City.
Our highest attendance in league 1 was 30,542 the night we played Scunthorpe and lifted the league 1 trophy We sold out all of our tickets it was just Scunthorpe didnt sell all of their end despite us taking some of their end for home fans
To be specific... Highest attendance in League One, Leeds United v Gillingham 38,256, 3rd May 2008. And in second place Leeds United v Bristol Rovers 38,234, 8th May 2010.
shame these people cant turn up week in week out, but then again £36 a ticket every week isnt sustainable.
I've no idea if it still stands, but for a long time the highest-ever Division 3 attendance was recorded on Christmas Day 1948 when 49,655 attended the Hull City v Rotherham United fixture at Boothferry Park. Hull City won 3-2.
I believe that does remain the leagues highest record attendance, the record lowest was apparently 588 for Rochdale v Cambridge on 5th Feb 1974.
The records back then will never be broken unless a massive teams like Newcastle, Man U, Arsenal somehow get relegated twice. And that will never happen
Don´t forget years ago there was standing & no H & S so therefore there was more fans crammed into the grounds. 36,364 is still massive even if it ain´t a record.
