I know, it's not your daily business but I thought you guys might like to hear this: Rafael van der Vaart and his Wife Sylvie van der Vaart are getting a divorce. The former Spurs midfielder confirmed this in the Dutch media yesterday. He and Sylvie had a row on new years eve, things got out of control with the result of VDV hitting his wife.

The couple showed strains on their marriage since the summer. Rumours of a break up were flying around in the past six months but now it seems that after seven years Sylvie will leave Rafael. Their six year old son will stay with behind with Sylvie as VDV will go on training camp in Abu Dhabi. When he returns on the 10th of January he will have to seek new accommodation.

    Singing off,

If VDV confirmed this have you got some quotes and a link? I don't really want to keep this open if it's all rumour.

Pretty sure on Facebook he sent a note on New Years Day wishing everybody a good year and he and his family had a great New Year.

It's been all over the news here in The Netherlands, not just the gossip tabloids.

Quote VDV: "Hitting her was a big mistake, I'm an Idiot."
Quote Sylvia: "I have forgiven him, but we have grown appart and there was no way to stop that proces."

Sorry but I have no respect for anyone who hits their wife or girlfriend or husband or boyfriend cos they were angry or having a row.

You know what, I don't actually care about the priate lives of any of our players, let alone former players. Shame if he did it and they have split, but not really any of my concern.

It can't be easy having a wife or girlfriend who is just as famous a celebrity as the husband.
Don't worry Sylvie we'll have you at the Lane anytime:emoticon-0111-blush

The exact quote is "Hi everybody, I wish everyone of you all the best for 2013 with lot's of luck and happiness!! Hope you also had a great time celebrating last night!"

To use FB as a barometer is a tough one, as on the one hand this was posted on Christmas Day...

...whilst a couple of days later he posted a notable Sylvie-free pic of him and the kids at Euro Disney...

(Also, in response to the latter photo, somebody posted a link to a German gossip mag article - classy, guys...)

Spot on, this obsession with the private lives of people in (or out of come to that) the news is not attractive and reflects badly on the people who indulge in it.

Thinking about it, can anybody give me a valid reason why this thread should not be closed?
