Can only assume he hasn't got a brain. Players are warned that betting on football matches is a no.no so why do they do it. It's not as if they need the money if they are on decent wages which Gosling will be.

As long as he's not betting against the team he plays for I don't see the harm.

I know it's against the rules, but I just don't agree with them.

Who is this man Dan Gosling?

Seriously though... wow Gozzah. Just wow. First time in ages you can actually get some playing time and you go and dick it up.

Some people just can't be helped can they.

He should have had a gander at the betting rules first.

Silly rule for me, as someone says as long as he hasn't bet on his team losing then I don't have a problem with it personally. Bet plenty of other players have done the same and nothing will have been done.

Hopefully he'll learn before too long, that the pound in his hand is worth more than his pound in the bookmakers pocket.

How many footballers over the years have fallen foul to the gambling bug.

    Too many of them.
He wants to hope he doesn't end up like Chopra.
I wonder if he's got any tips for Cheltenham.

David Moyes Wife will give you all the tips for Cheltenham that you need.

There used to be a pundit that reckoned horses with 8st 10lb used to be the best handicapped, I don't know enough about the system but I'm sure DMW will be able to explain it.

    Mostly don't see the harm.

Also... from what I've been told it used to be commonplace for snooker players to bet against themselves winning a match so that they could guarantee an income regardless of how they did in a competition. They would try to win but didn't walk away with nothing if they failed - makes sense if you are playing in a sport without a salary. It must surely be against the rules now though.

I once won £500 on a modest bet by picking the first 15 stone man to ride the winner of the Derby.

    Lester Piggott's cellmate.

I would think so, it took quite a while for a lot of people to accept what they saw as a bar room game to be shown on prime time TV. The pre Stephen Hendry days.

Seems hard to think of Hendry (babyface) being 45 now.

Hardly the same as when a certain Bruce Grobbelaar did it back in the 90's, the game where Andy Cole scored a really quick hat-trick springs to mind.

Obviously being a goal-keeper gives you a bit of direct influence on a result whereas Gosling hardly ever gets on the pitch for us.

A slap on the wrists and a don't do it again should suffice I reckon.

Clearly if the bloke had any sense he'd get one of his mates to stick the bets on for him.
