Sky Sports report interest from Rochdale and Preston in signing Gornell before the end of the loan window. I feel Gornell has been slightly disappointing lately and does not seem to be getting into goalscoring positions when he does play. Any thoughts on this story?
I wouldn't sell any player until the end of the season. I agree he's been a little off recently, but is clearly a quality player - there's no smoke without fire and being consistently linked to Championship and League 1 clubs is a sign he's got something - and his first touch is absolutely superb. He's an intelligent forward, almost continental in his style of play, holds the ball up well but isn't prolific. I think he's the kind of player who could do well at a higher level, but it makes no sense to weaken our squad at this stage of the season - just look what it's done to Crawley.
the better he plays the higher the fee. it is surely the emperors clothes. i will start--since gornell has been an excellent team player particularly at the start. he assists, with, makes and scores quality goals, indeed he has been the subject of interest from many clubs and his presence makes waves particularly in training at fairbourne sands. i have no doubt el tel will make a name for himself right up to champioships. rochdale anpreston are in the queue with leicester coventry and bristol city. good luck el tel
See no reason to loan out anyone that's making the 16 regularly. If we rely only on the regular starting 11, we're likely to come unstuck and there'd be hell to pay. Anything like that can wait till summer, promotion's far more important. Gornell's a good player but his recent form's been disappointing and his usually excellent touch has too often deserted him. Without that, he's liable to give up possession too easily or be brushed off the ball. I imagine it's been a frustrating season for him - a lot of time on the bench (or injured/suspended) and then unable to achieve the consistency needed to fix his place when he's had the chance. Still shown good quality at times though and I hope we keep him because I think we'll see more from him if we do. At the moment though, it has to be Morgan (for making things happen) and Collins (our best natural goalscorer) as the first choice pair - but that certainly doesn't mean we can let an important member of the squad go out on loan.
I think if he did go GT would have a ready-made replacement waiting - I heard a rumour the other day that we were in for Richards of Port Vale - a player with a track record of scoring goals in this league.
He has a glandular problem ok. Would be foolish to let Gornell go full stop, especially on loan. He's a very good player and can still play a big part in the run-in, and anyone who thinks Turner went through the despairing grasp of Stanley plus a tribunal (has it happened yet?!) to let him go on loan is mistaken. However I still wouldn't say no to Marc Richards, but do we need him? Only if Bradshaw was loaned out.
