I applaud Gordon Strachen's honesty last night - he stated that there are no morals in Football. He quoted examples of the types of indiscretions committed by footballers - who are punished - but receive a heroes welcome on their return to the team. Strachen specifically mentioned Eric Cantona https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WRDzXV7IgiI Strachen was making the point that football is lacking in morals - where conduct such as displayed by the likes of Suarez is not condemned by his own team / fans. I suppose Strachen also would attest that the same 'adoring' fans would call for the death penalty if one of their own was bitten ! I think he mentioned the word 'hypocrites' - which would be about right. Strachen may have gone a little too far in suggesting that all football fans have no morals - but I can understand his sentiments - which surely must extend to any form of cheating to gain an advantage ( where do you draw the line as to what bit of rule bending is acceptable ? ) -- and the acceptance by the fans -- as long as it was your team that benefited from the 'illegal' advantage............Let me illustrate Who among us shout " Handball" when it connects with the hand of an opponent - yet keep a stony silence when the roles are reversed ? Surely this is a prime example of hypocrisy ? Personally I hate any form of cheating - and probably loathe winning by cheating more than losing - but before we can take the moral high ground we need to ensure that we cannot be accused of hypocrisy -- even so, well done Mr.Strachen for being honest.
Thanks alwaysright - I had heard about these comments but to the life of me could not find them on the internet as i could not remember the name of the person who made them! These were comments that i posted earlier in the day elsewhere, well before i had seen Strachen's viewpoint; As always i like to question things from the other perspective. Not condoning Suarez's actions or defending him, however, for me questions arise about the usual mass hysteria, the phenomenon of transference. The modernism of football from spectator to participator. A conforming culture bred by tv media and evident in it's social media form like a plague. Suarez would have fitted well into the crazy gang and if as an opponent his actions would have been treated accordingly, with the loss of his front teeth. The biggest mistake the Uruguay player made was doing it on the world stage, because unfortunately for him, unlike the forearm smashes the throat grabs, the studded tackles, biting like a rabid dog is unacceptable, what a strange world we live. There is a known cure for Suarez actions, In the days of Vinney Jones he would have just of been grabbed by the lower regions, but today it's judge and jury by satellite and cable networks. Punishment four months, fair enough, no squabbles with that but like Cantona flying in like a seagull, he is only human. Now I suggest he goes see his psychologist to treat his frustrated childish continued trait, but he is not the worst by no means, at least he's not a murderer still plying his trade. Worshiping opinion by tv like seagulls following a trawler. ps. well done Strachen for at least speaking some sense into this whole diabolical affair.
Well said Strachan. The ultimate footballing criminal is one Moron King, serial offender both on and off the pitch. Suarez does not even approach his list of misdeameanors. Hang your head in shame Gillingham.

When I saw Gordon Strachan's statement I immediately thought of Port Vale fans. They abused the hell out of Lee Hughes when he was at Notts County. When he joined them all of a sudden he was the Messiah and since he's left apparently he's a no good convict who was never very good anyway.
