http://www.safc.com/news/20110419/gordon-goes-under-the-knife_2256213_2342150 Goalkeeper Craig Gordon is set to miss four to six months after undergoing knee surgery, manager Steve Bruce has confirmed. The Scottish international went under the knife in Sweden yesterday after flying out to see world-renowed tendon specialist Professor Hakan Alfredson. Bruce told safc.com: "Craig had the operation yesterday and it went well. "He'll be out for about four to six months now. "Craig's been following a programme but when the specialist had a look at the knee again, we were left with no choice but to go ahead with the surgery. "That just sums our luck up at the moment." Gordon has made 15 appearances for Sunderland this season, with colleague Simon Mignolet handling goalkeeping duties of late. Mignolet, 22, has made 21 senior appearances in his first season in the Barclays Premier League. This is bad, but not as bad as it would have been last season. Yes, I know that the Mig isn't perfect, but he's a very good replacement for Gordon, if he can keep his form up.
firstly, **** off roger, how can i be serious when you are keep making me open another bevy just to supress my child-like chucles..... but what's going on, firstly bruce says gordon is gonna play against wigan, then he's out for 6 months, i'm confused, but as roger say's it, not as confused as some
seems clear, bruce sent him hoping he would be ok, doc say no, we are ****ed, again with mig playing on Saturday after bruce tells the world he wants gordon in. I want to back bruce but he makes it ****ing hard
that's your business syd, if in need apparently there's some lads on here you can help you out????????????
According to Physioroom, you guys have 4 injuries. Newcastle United have 7 - the most in the league out of all the teams. Could be worse for ya's.
Dorset I posted this on another thread a short while ago. What I can't figure out is how rugby players sustain so few injuries and those that do recover more quickly than football players. The yanks are amazed they don''t wear suits of armour like their football players do. Maybe we need a top class rugby medical/physio team and fitness coach. That way we may have less injuries and faster recovery. Perhhaps one of you out there is a Physiotherapist and can enlighten me. I also question why Bruce's teams seem to have so many injuries. It was the same at Birmingham and Wigan
Yes, Chappaz was also questioning SB's training methods a few nights ago. There must be something in Bruces conditioning methods that make the players more susceptable to injury. I'm not sure that rugby physios/coaches are the answer, as they have totally different ways of preparing players for matches. You'll also struggle to find a slightly built, agile speed merchant in rugby
The thing about rugby players is that they can practice scrums and practice taking players down. It's part of the game and they practice it all day long. As a result, their bodies adapt to it. Football players, on the other hand, train to avoid bringing players down. They can't really have a training session where they purposely hack and barge at each other to condition themselves can they? As a result, they never have a chance to get used to it. In this situation, the only thing you can do is make sure that fatigue is limited, so muscles, joints, tendons and ligaments aren't weakened by excessive use. There will always be regular football matches to deal with, so training has to be tailored around them to make sure the players don't get too worn out. If they do, then there's a significantly higher risk of injury when it comes to playing. My theory, is that Bruce is pushing the players too much. They might feel fine and full of energy when it comes to match day, but if joints, muscles and ligaments have been worn down, they take much longer than a day or two to repair themselves back to full strength. PS: It isn't just about the intensity and duration of training, either. It's also about what sort of routine he has lined up for them. If he chooses exercises which involve a lot of impact pressure and stretching, then it's going to take its toll.
IMO your theory is probably correct, in that the players are being pushed a bit too hard in training. I've been reading various web pages this evening and have come across several stories about SB asking questions of his medical staff. Sloping shoulder syndrome?
