http://www.lcfc.com/page/ThisWeekinHistoryDetail/0,,10274~2830962,00.html Looks like our tradition of breeding England's finest keepers starts well beyond the modern game ...
Now I did not know that..but did you know that in the history of L.C.F.C we have had 3 nicknames, the 2 everyone seems to know were the fosse and the foxes but the third seems to have been airbrush out of our history,in the 50"s and 60"s we we had the nickname of the filberts.I still dont know why its been forgotten..Anyone know ??
Oh yes, I remember it well..I was a young whipper snapper at the time ....me and a mate went down to the white city on our penny farthing to support Horace...and we travelled to wembley on a vespa to watch gordon win the world cup....happy days..
Was it an insult - a filbert being slang for something until we embraced it and named our mascot that?
The old ground was on Filbert street simples really ( A filbert is a type of a nut make of that what you will )
Didnt know that we had forgotten the nickname the filberts. Oh well, as old as methuselah I am. Cant remeber to zip me fly, but do remember the filberts
.. it was all going so well until you mentioned the Vespa .. admit it IUTBJF, you are missing him aren't you?
Your right...but Im really trying to improve my aim..vespa's were far superior to lambretta's ....they were for wannabes...
