Goran Ivanisevic dashes to see West Brom Celebrity West Bromwich Albion fan Goran Ivanisevic made a frantic dash through London to see his first-ever Baggies game. The former Wimbledon tennis champion arrived at Albionâs Premier League game at QPR less than 35 minutes after stepping off court at the Royal Albert Hall. Ivanisevic, aged 40, made the four-mile journey to Loftus Road and arrived three minutes after kick-off in the Baggiesâ 1-1 Premier League draw. The Croatian, who started following Albion in 2005, visited the dressing room after the game to meet the players and receive a signed shirt from head coach Roy Hodgson. âIt was great,â he said. âI felt honoured to be there. Itâs a shame it has taken me seven years to get to my first Albion game but I think I brought the team a bit of luck. âOf course, I would have preferred to have started with a win â but 1-1 is okay. In the end, I think it was a fair result. I was so happy when we scored. My leg was hurting from my tennis match â but I still jumped up. The atmosphere was great. I would now like to come and see a home game. That would be amazing.â Ivanisevic became a Baggies fan due to his friendship with Black Country-born tennis journalist David Law, a lifelong Baggies fan who commentates for the BBC and works as communications director for the ATP Champions Tour. He has warmed up for legends matches in a Baggies kit and even persuaded tennis legend John McEnroe to pose with a shirt. Ivanisevic lost his match at the AEGON Masters on Saturday in straight sets to Australiaâs Mark Philippoussis. iReader
