For those of you wanting to say goodbye to the last real rock legend, Lemmys funeral is being streamed live on YouTube on Saturday late evening on the Bands official channel (from 11pm-12.30am UK time) from Forest Lawn Cemetery in Glendale, Los Angeles.

Search for Motorhead in You Tube and you're bound to find the live link.

    A Band statement says
    Scheduled for 9 Jan 2016
We want you ALL to be a part of this memorial service.

So wherever you are, PLEASE get together and watch with fellow Motörheadbangers and friends. GO to your favourite bar, or your favourite club, make sure they have access to an internet connection and toast along with us.
Or simply invite your pals around and celebrate Lemm’s life at home.

Whatever your venue, and however you can, let’s be sure to gather globally on Saturday 9th and celebrate the life of our dear friend and irreplaceable icon.

    www.youtube.com

Then just search for Motorhead or Lemmy Funeral in the search panel and follow the results.

For some reason (probably lack of intelligence) I can never seem to be able to post links on these pages

The above link seems to be working ok. There is also a countdown clock on there.

I shall be having several Jack Daniels & Coke in the Avon Packet on Saturday evening as a mark of my appreciation of what he meant to me.

Thanks, I've set myself a reminder.

Don't know why but this hit home to me that I'm getting older now when he and the one from the Specials went on the same day :(

It's hit me very hard too.

Not sure if you're aware, but in November the original Motorhead drummer Phil (Philthy Animal) Taylor died of Liver Failure at just 61 too and Lemmy was cut up about that.

So suddenly there is only 'Fast' Eddie Clark left from the original classic Motorhead line up left, and Lemmy himself died just 20 days after finishing the continental leg of their European tour before they were due to come to England in 2 weeks time, when I was supposed to see them in Swindon, along with Saxon and Girlschool.

I saw them play on TV at Glastonbury last Summer and thought how thin and gaunt he looked.

According to the 'new' (but had served 22 years in the band!!) drummer Mikkey Dee, it was taking all of Lemmys strength to play the most recent gigs in Europe, and he was totally exhausted after each one and was very frail. His manager noticed a change in his speech before Xmas and fearing he was about to suffer a Stroke he was sent for a brain scan which revealed advanced and aggressive Cancerous tumours in both his brain and neck.

In typical Lemmy fashion, when he was given the verdict that he had just 2-6 months to live, he apparently quipped '**** it, I've had a good run' and 2 days later he was gone.

The owner of the Rainbow Bar & Grill, 2 blocks down the road from where Lemmy lived in LA, and where he spent most of his life playing on their video poker machine in between chatting to fans and drinking JD & Coke (later changed to Vodka & Orange) got it taken out of the bar and shipped to Lemmys apartment and he apparently passed away whilst playing it.

I'm totally gutted I didn't get to see him for all of the years that they toured. I always thought he was indestructible and there would always be another tour, and another......

Despite his image, every tribute to the bloke I've seen, from the rich and famous to just ordinary people and fans, paints him to be an absolute gentleman to everyone he ever encountered and the most approachable of.

RIP Lemmy - The last of a now extinct breed

Chatting to a mate years ago and got onto the subject of Motörhead and he informs me that Fast Eddie was his step fathers brother. Known him for years you would of expected him to mention it before but didn't want to be hassled with friends asking for autographs etc.

Listening to absolute radio yesterday and they said that in his last interview in Germany, Lemmy said he wanted to go onto playing live till he died. And when that happens he was going to haunt another musician to play after that event as well. That's how much he enjoyed playing live.

I knew about Filthy Phil and found that a shock as well, but Lemmy was a bang. Most would remember the gruff Ace of Spades but not realise his voice on Silver Machine.

    True legend

I also saw Saxon in Stoud leisure centre. To a 13 year old with all those dirty stinking bikers I was like living the dream <laugh> But unfortunelty I was ill when going to see Motörhead, same as DC and my biggest regret also to Roger Waters. Sad thing is I'm not really an ill person just **** that it happened three times :(

    Wow !

Great story from Lemmy and how like him to come up with something like that. He wasn't one to sit back and always said he'd die on the road. As it happens it didn't quite work out that way, but he went doing something he seemed to love almost as much.
One of his best stories is that he never had a hangover and that was because he never stopped drinking aside from when he was asleep, which didn't seem very often !

I also have the Lemmy documentary on DVD and he comes across just as you'd imagine, very humble and down to earth even with the Nazi memorabilia collection !.... I really do recommend watching it.

I'm not sure he would have understood the massive outpouring of grief worldwide for his passing but it's going to be huge.

I've never seen Saxon or Girlschool but have plenty of their music, but I was lucky enough to see Roger Waters and Snowy White/Andy Fairweather-Low play The Dark Side Of The Moon at the O2 in 2008. If you've not seen the new film of The Wall, I'd urge you to get it. I had it on DVD as a Xmas present and it's mind blowing.

Forgot to add that I bought what turned out to be the final Motorhead album, Bad Magic when it came out last August, and haven't stopped playing it since. It's fantastic, and especially so when you consider how ill Lemmy must have been touring and recording it and how much effort it must have taken.

If you don't have it and want it, PM me with your address and I'll burn you a copy.

I can get it hopefully through my Kodi box thanks for the offer though. Mrs hates heavy stuff and finds it strange whenever me and the daughter hear the start of Thunderstuck or Enter the Sandman etc weird ain't she. She does like it when Matt Bellamey gives it large on a Muse track though.
It was 2007 I was due to see Roger Waters think it was the Wall tour. I was recovering from a throat op that went wrong. I waited till the last possible moment to decide and my brother (who's seen Floyd loads) sold it outside. The 2008 was the year I got married in the states so could not catch up then either.
My brother went to see Rush in Manchester one night then Roger Waters the next and wished he never because he loves Rush and said Roger Waters just blew the memory away.
Can't remember if I saw Girlschool I'm sure they was backing someone I saw.
Looking back we had the greatest music with wild ranges so perhaps being this age ain't so bad <laugh>

Sad to say, I never saw Motorhead live.

I did however get to see Saxon at the Colston Hall in the early days and they certainly lived up to their reputation as the loudest around at the time. Took several days before I could hear again properly.

I really went to that gig to see the support Riot and they were a class act, not sure exactly when it was but I had not long started working so must have been early 80;s. I remember joining the queue for the record signing at Rival Records on Pak Street the following day and several members of the band doing a double take as I emerged from behind a demin clad queue of rockers in my suit....

Frankly, bearing in mind the lifestyle and substances involved, its a miracle that Lemmy made it to his 70'. He must have had the constitution of an Ox and been made of granite and I for one will be watching to pay tribute to the man who's band recorded THE definitive album and who changed the way the bass guitar is played forever.

    Yeah that was very cool.

Even cooler was that Tony Iommi and Suzi Quattro turned up for the ceremony !

Cozy Powell was one of my favourite ever drummers especially on early Rainbow stuff. He also played with Sabbath, hence Tone turning up I guess.

Other favourite drummers are Brian Downey (Thin Lizzy) Vinnie Appice (Black Sabbath during part of the Dio era and also Heaven & Hell) John Bonham, Stuart Copeland (just for the percussion on Walking On The Moon), Ian Paice, and Frank Beard of ZZ Top.

Very cool story. As you say, Lemmy did well to make it to 70 given the lifestyle he chose and the sustances involved and sleep deprivation. He went out quickly just as I imagine he'd have wanted, but kept going right until the end.

Nothing like as good a story, but I did encounter Van Morrison on a flight from Bristol to Dublin with Aer Lingus in the 1990's. Having delayed the departure by a good 20 minutes by being late, he had the audacity to scowl at anyone who spoke to him, including me once we were underway. Knob ! Didn't like him or his music anyway !

I would imagine there will be world record sales of Jack Daniels in The Rainbow, The Roxy and the Whisky A Go-Go on Sunset Strip in LA later, and around the world too.

I shall be having a couple too......
