Defying the sodden playing surface, a rip-roaring 90 minutes at Little Benton on Saturday afternoon saw United deservedly claim maximum points, with forward duo Adam Amstrong and Andy Hall each netting twice.

Debuting at this level, U16 forward Andy Hall supplied a good finish to put United ahead within the first minute - Villa coming close themselves immediately before and after the goal in a frantic opening spell.

That lead lasted only until the 13th minute however, when Jerell Sellars was clumsily impeded by Macaulay Gilhespy in the area and the Villa forward got up to fire home the resultant penalty.

Chances continued to appear at both ends, with Brad Halliday shooting narrowly wide for United and Freddie Woodman quickly off his line to deny Villa's Daniel O'Brien with his feet.

Newcastle got their noses in front just before the hour mark thanks to a memorable strike from the lively Adam Armstrong, finding the top right hand corner of the visitor's goal from the edge of the box.

And before Villa had the chance to regroup, Hall had his second and United's third when firing into an empty net.
Woodman then did well to defy Callum Robinson and the Villa substitute was inspirational in helping his side to press forward.

Villa's second goal arose from a dubious spot kick after Sellars crumbled under minimal contact from Ryan McKinnon and then converted his second spot kick of the game - although Woodman this time looked close to reaching his rising effort.

With 17 minutes remaining Newcastle restored their two goal advantage thanks to the persistence of Armstrong - taking advantage of some slack defensive work and slipping the ball past marooned 'keeper Brad Watkins from the edge of the box.

And although Robinson got one back on 81 minutes with a near post header, United claimed a second successive home win and could have added to their tally - Dan Barlaser jinking into the area and seeing his shot blocked, before Adam Armstrong turned and shot narrowly wide.

Team: Woodman, Morgan, Desmond, Drennan, McKinnon, Gilhespy (Laidler 61), Barlaser, Halliday, Hall, Armstrong, Olley. Subs n/u: Roberts, Busby, Cameron, Cobain.

    Booked: Gilhespy.

Hearing good things about these kids and some others that aren't mentioned here. Looking good for the future.

Think young Freddie Woodman is going to be a good keeper.

Seems we've got quite a few starlets.

I just hope they don't get their heads turned and do a Ranger act.
