Maybe we're looking in the wrong place for compensation for Suarez no longer being there and focusing too much on forwards. The improvements made in defence could turn out to be our best 'world class' investments this window. Defenders are never the glamour signings we all crave but extra clean sheets and a better goals conceded tally come next May could be the difference we all want to see 'now'.

    I completely agree.

I also really hope this helps Mignolet have a solid season this time around.

    Like Skrtel and Sakho.

That is probably the real reason why baby faced Agger got dropped.

Defence will hopefully make the difference for us. With the likes of sterling sturridge coutinho markovic suso ibe we a not exactly short of attacking flair.

Well said. Fact is, we now have Manquillo and Moreno who are two full backs who will actually stop a lot more crosses from getting into the box. Enrique, Johnson and Flanno are awful at this and they (along with Gerrard) exposed the centre back pair.

    Flanagan is far from awful.

We also no very little about Manquillo so lets not all speak to soon and assume he's our saviour. He's young, new to this country and looks poor on youtube. He had a good debut but lets not jump the gun. I hope he does great but he may only be here for depth at first.

Flanagan is a very solid and reliable player. Sure his footballs not pretty but he does the job. I feel people knocking him are just being materialistic wanting some thing exotic. I always feels comfortable with him in the team.

Going off Flanno last season and Mankini's sparse appearances in pre-season it's definitely close but for me Flanno has an edge having had a season's experience and being already settled. Liked the look of the Mankini in the Dortmund game though. Main worry is that he's a little bit deer in the headlights, said it before. Think the same of Lambert tbh... it's all going to be too much for him I think sadly, the step up, the expectations, already looks out of his depth. Maybe he'll grow into it it's still early doors.

Lambert was a low cost risk free signing fortunately. He's also here to add depth.

If he chips in a few goals here and there and puts in a good shift (with keeping possession, pressing etc) when he comes on he will be ok. Origi will probably replace him in a year.

A lot of young full backs can be a bit 'dear in the head lights'. Flanagan is very confident when defending and very tidy with passing.
