Won the Scottish FA cup tie against the odds today and also being 1-0 down. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/26097299
Simply lost the plot down here as is SC where is it all going to end. Last time was 1 to 4 this time could be 2-3-4-conferance.
Yes does well with Scottish football.........but not championship when we needed a decent man in charge..
But given where we are now, even you must admit he would of been the better of the three in this division?
No, but I also would not have taken the risk with Del either. I still maintain that the board are clueless when it comes to appointing the right manager. The only decent manager appointed by SL was Gary Johnson, who was sacked for taking us to 14th in the Championship.............I don't care what anyone says and I said at the time when they wanted him out "be careful for what you wish for" Have we progressed?
Yeah , you may have mentioned that before.! However, The board took a chance when they appointed Gary Johnson as well, he had moderate success getting a non league club promoted a few times, you always carp on about "not proven at the level" well Gary johnson wasn't until we took a chance on an up an coming lower league manager, but hey its always sunnier with hindsight eh.! Th fact you are one of very few that can't just simply accept that had GJ stayed any longer that season we would undoubtedly have been relegated that year removes any credibility from your argument. (stats may not prove that but common sense certainly does.) Gary Johnson enjoyed the security of a loyal and very rich (on hand) chairman who invested more during GJ's tenure than at any other time in Bristol City history, whereas Del Mckinnes was asked to work with a massively reduced budget and he was required to halve the playing budget for 2 seasons consecutively. Have we progressed -- No.! Would we have progressed had Gary Johnson Stayed, -- most definitely not.!!
The point is, your views are just speculating and not fact..........Fact is, we are 2nd from bottom of League 1 and most defiantly not better off without him. You can argue and disagree with my comments all you like, which is one reason I don't come on here so much..........most that come on here can't see the wood through the trees. That goes for the board too, hence the reason we are where we are!
"You can argue and disagree with my comments all you like, which is one reason I don't come on here so much" One of us is missing the point of a football forum here surely..? If you really believe in your own opinion mine wouldn't stop you posting.!!
you can only bang your head against the wall for so long! I'm fairly convinced that a lot of our fans are NOT looking to progress the club the way that I would like to see it. We are a massive City, yet we have dire football clubs, even though our club is run by a multi-millionaire, we are are shambles. We had a great chance while GJ was in charge, but most fans insisted the right to play Barcelona football, thinking we were bigger and better than we actually was. Would we have gone down, who's to know, it's all speculation. After the farce of Steve Coppell we should have then brought in a top manager to progress us to the next level, but what did we do? put Millen in charge and most fans were happy with that.......I for one, could see where it was all going......i'm sure you can remember me NOT being happy.........And It was and has been all down hill ever since. The dream of being a big club and successful club after 45 years of supporting city has rapidly gone.
And SOD was hung out to dry. He was told to slash slash slash and still do the business. The chap was on a hiding to nothing. The football was played so much better under him than under SC we look a lost cause. JET looks a distant memory from the player playing under SOD. Sorry i am resigned to league 2 football and another hard season trying to stay away from the conferance. We are a club in massive decline.
Totally agree with your points Onefor, except that The farce of Steve Coppell was a situation that should never have happened. He should have been given whatever he needed (and nothing more than what he required) in order to get the job done. I do suspect that egos got in the way, and Coppell does not suffer fools lightly as SL found out. This club has been on a landslide ever since
No, just someone that respects him for being the best manager we've had down the gate since AD.........and quite a few of our fans couldn't wait to get shot of him so we could progress...well that worked didn't it!
