See Macheda scored 2 and Owen 1 in Man U's 4-1 friendly victory in the USA.

Hope they keep banging them in during pre-season so SAF lets Danny return to us

I think Bruce needs to act and either get a deal done now, I know SAF wont so get a striker in. I like Welbeck but we need to sort it and stop witing for SAF to make a royal judgement.

Yeah you are probably right. I think SAF will have a look at him over this tour, it will be obvious to him by then how often he can expect to play this season

Just caught something on SSN that SAF could be looking for a new striker. Anyone else hear that? Rooney, Berbatov, Macheda, Chichito and Owen are the first 5 strikers and if a new one comes in that will be 6, with DW at 7th. That = no game time for the lad and I cant see him being happy with that. Even if Berbatov leaves, he wont even be on the bench for most games and is 10 or 12 League Cup games/FA Cup games really going to satisfy a 21 year old looking to make a name for himself, is it?

Also, if Man Utd want Wesley Sneijder, he is going to cost £25m to £30m and near £200k per week. That has to be funded even if you are Man Utd. DW is not going to fire Man Utd past Barcelona (just yet anyway) but he could fire us to a good position in the EPL.

I do think we will at least get the lad back on loan but I'd be happier if we made him the permanent replacement for Judas. However, if Henderson cost Liverpool £20m, dont expect us to pay anything less than £15m for Danny. He is English, only 21 and has a full season & half a dozen EPL goals to his name now.

Carroll went for £35m with not much better stats.

If we got him in and no one else, I'd be comfortable for the new season start.

If there were any left sided attacking wingers available I might be greedy though? Lol

I agree it would be awesome.

Good post, with valid points about game time. That was the aim of the thread to be honest, the possibility of lack of mins for Danny.

From purely a negotiation point of view, its in SAF interest to say he will be needed etc to hike up the price should they decide to sell

Give Richardson the left midfield berth to start the season and tell N'Zog its a no show. Why pay him £60k per week and £10m fee? Would he really add that much more for such a large outlay?

Spend our waed on a lad that settled here already, knows the set up and is desperate to be a success in the EPL. DW's attitude and performances won me over totally last year and I think him and Gyan looked pretty formidable as as partnership for the 6 or 7 games or so after Judas ****ed off. Only injuries to both strikers stoped us seeing a bvery fruitful partnership. That Chelsea game as well showed me what a real striking partnership was about.

With the movement and pace of Gyan and Wellbeck up front, the likes of Richardson, Sessegnon, Larsson, and Gardener would really reap the rewards of goals form the middle of the park.

Agreed. I would much prefer to see the money go on Wellbeck who we know has already formed a good partnership with Gyan.

Apone - I was sceptical about DW last season mate but his attitude, overall play and of course goal threat totally won me over. I'm a fan.

I think he is a lad who will fit in to our team ethic and is desperate to succeed at this level. He has all the qualities I admire in players and I really do think we should test SAF's resolve with the remainder of our war chest and secure the services of a player who could become a real force for us in years to come.

As importantly, Gyan and him seemed to really hit it off both on and off the pitch and that's a good thing to remember as well as partnerships are built not created.

Come on Steve, blow your wad on a lad we all want to see back at the SOL. Make SAF an offer he cant refuse.

You have actually got this slightly wrong Cest. He did mention 6 they were Rooney, Berbatov, Macheda, Chichito, Owen and Diouf.

He talked about his young strikers Macheda and Diouf but did not mention Welbeck at all. This could mean his mind is made up and he is on his way to us.

It could be a fact that SB and SNQ are putting together a decent deal for the lad but don't want the outlay until August.

I am a big fan and would love to see him come to Sunderland on a permanent basis.

Hope you're right Vegas, but I can't see them letting go of a player with such potential, at such an early stage of his career.

I think the key here though is Wellbeck realising he's 5/6 choice, talking to SAF and agreement being reached that he can go

We'll see, but I reckon the most that'll happen would be another loan.
