View full size photo » Yesterday in Cotonou, Stephane Sessegnon and his Benin teammates could only manage a 1-1 draw with Ethiopia, meaning the Beninese are now out of the qualifying for next years Africa Cup Of Nations. The results is bad news for Sessegnon and his teammates, but good news for us as it ensures that he'll be available for selection in January when the tournament is held in South Africa. If of course he stays with us.[/B]As for yesterday's game in a wet and rainy Cotonou, Sessegnon did very well, grabbing an assist for Mickael Pote's opening goal after 19 minutes. The Ethiopians hit back however and equalised shortly before half time as Alula Mekonnen slid the ball beyond Fabien Farnolle. Despite relentless pressure from Benin in the second half, including Sessegnon wasting a very good chance to put his side 2-1 up, no goal came leaving the side devastated to go out of the qualifying so early. The result means Benin are now out of the qualifying for next years Africa Cup Of Nations in the first round as the 1-1 scoreline put Ethiopia through on away goals. This means no tournament for Sessegnon this January, which is quite handy for us, and potentially no game on the qualifying weekend in mid-October.
Saved me a post! Might be a bad thing, clubs might now think 'ah, he's around in January' and try and snaffle him... Let's go with your idea though, I prefer that slant
I also think we have a problem because he will undoubtedly be looking for his club to provide him with a standard of football higher than just EPL. Unless we can give him a European stage for him to showcase his talent, we will lose him for sure.
Nah Ces, you got it wrong for once, what would the lad do without our global warming, the shear brilliance of our sunshine, just like home for him. Nah he aint going nowhere.
He will never have the international platform to showcase his talent with Benin as they are the African equivalent of San Marino, so he will want to play in European competition and achieve through club football what he never will through internationals. Unless we can show him we are the club to do that he will leave imo, if has not already made noises to MoN to so this summer.
Hope Mon can convince him, that Sunderland have the ambition to achive his ambitions. But if he wants away, and his head has been turned,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Goodbye at a big fat profit, Cynical I know, but I have no power on the field, or in the boardroom. If he wants to be away ,,,,,what can we as fans do ?
