Irish hotshot James McClean is set to TRIPLE his pay at Sunderland.

The winger has taken the Premier League by storm, scoring three goals in 10 appearances since Martin O’Neill promoted him from reserve team obscurity.

He is earning almost £4,000 a week at the moment and that will rise to more than £10,000 as he emerges as a key player in Sunderland’s future.

McClean was signed from Derry City in the summer for £350,000 as a development player, rather than a fully-fledged regular.

Get the lad tied down, mind.its a sad state when I read he is on 4k a week and my first thought was shock, to be on such a low wage.

Then I quickly thought, hang on, 4 k a week.

How we get used to things.

Yeah that was in the Mirror...syd

JAMES McCLEAN is set to bump up his wages by nearly FOUR TIMES in a new deal with Sunderland.
Winger McClean, 22, signed from Derry City for £350,000, has been a revelation under Martin O'Neill.

Now the Black Cats are ready to send his £4,000-a-week wages rocketing to around £15,000.

    That was the sun

McClean can expect his wages of under £4,000 a week to rocket to over £10,000 plus bonuses.

    The star.......................

    .........................................................................................

You'll never tie him down with 10k a week...

You cant expect a young lad to arrive from Derry City and be on a huge wage straight away, you have to earn the right to a bigger wage. At the moment McClean is going about it the right way, and long may it continue, at SUNDERLAND.<wizard><magic>

If they have any sense and are a forward looking club, then they reject any offer. And should they accept then we will all know what there ambitions are.:smiley-finger007:

He's only been in the first team for a couple of months. Yes he's done brilliantly so far but I would see how he does for the rest of the season & then re-assess his contract. I would possibly up any bonuses he gets at the moment but his basic wage I would leave untill the summer. My opinion only gents!

No guess as to what the new contract would be in the journallive, just says we will be offering a new one.

I reckon it will be at least 30k a week, over 5 years. with a 30million buy out clause!

    He's 22!

I thought he was about 17, a young prodigy! £4k £10k whatever, that figure is nothing for the level of performances he's giving you.

I'd have thought he'd stay with you guys a few years til he was 21/22 ish but since he's 22 already, he'll likely spend no longer than a couple of seasons with you if he keeps up this good form. It's highly unlikely he will keep up the good form though, not many wingers are consistently good. In fact I can't think of any, Bale is about the best there is but he's no 90's Giggs, he comes and goes.

I thought transfer fees were linked with players wages eg Mclean 10grand a week, maximum transfer fee 1 mil.
Rooney 200 grand a week maximum transfer fee a lot more.
