He wasn't going to get much pitch time with us now Malone, Fabio and Peltier are all playing LB. I suppose he'll get some game time up there, but it looks to me that Slade doesn't rate him - shame that. http://www.cardiffcityfc.co.uk/news/article/declan-john-makes-barnsley-loan-move-2318278.aspx
He needs the game time. No good someone his age permanently benched. He could well come back a better player and make a challenge next season (I hope he does). Can't see Fabio being with us then and Peltier is essentially a right back.
Looks to me that Slade doesn't rate either Fabio or Declan defensively. They both have plenty of pace going forward, but both lack the height that Slade seems to prefer. Looks like the taller stereotypical defensive players like Connolly, Malone and Peltier are Slade' vision to make up the back 4. Declan will improve with game time no doubt, but I wonder if his future is at left back with this club, much the same as Fabio - they might both move on in the summer.
Fabio will move on surely but local players like Declan John should be cherished and nurtured. I still reel with anger at the way Jones treated Adam Matthews.
He desperately needs competitive games. He was never going to get pitch time with numpty Slade around. I hope he does well and proves Slade wrong.
Its good that he will get game time. It should be with us. He better than Malone and on current form could do better than Noone. At a minimum he should be on the bench. The problem is Slade.
It's obvious which way Slade's mind's working. He plays the big guys he inherited - Morrison, Manga, Turner, Connolly, Jones, Macheda - and has added his own brand of lower reach "large persons" the likes of Revell and Malone. Out went Daehli and Ravel, now John on loan and probably Fabio for good before long. Harris is sidelined after looking very lively when he was given the chance, and If we had a 6' 4" midfielder, he'd start him every game. The guy is a one trick manager who came from the lower didvisions as is ultimatel destined to stay there - I hope not taking us with him.
