Morning Y'all, The Matthew Upson rumour won't go away... The 33yo central defender was on loan at Brighton last season is poised to either sign a perminant contract with Poyets men or apply his trade at Elland Road. Obviously Leeds have been linked to every man and his dog in recent weeks, but given the choice between Mills and Upson, who would you go for? The Kevin Doyle rumour has resurficed again, but with Celtic believed to be in the hunt, can we compete with the hoops. I think most of us take what Warnock has been saying in his new book with a pinch of salt. This time blaming Snodds for us not going up last season. I think it would have taken three players of Snodds ability and skill to have got to the automatics.... What is the furthest you have ever travelled to a match. Have you ever got half way there, then found out the match has been called off???
Morning Elland. Saw a link this morning that despite a pay cut Leeds can't afford Doyles wages so McD set to look elsewhere. Can't remember where I read it or care as totally predictable outcome. Compete with Celtic, when have we competed with anyone for a signing. To be honest, the more I think about it, the next three years will depend mainly on the youth academy. I hope McD can mould some of those into Lees or Byram standard. It's clear it's our only real hope as signing the likes of Noel Hunt or Smith alone will not turn us into table toppers. So, iM looking forward to the 2015 / 2016 season. Bringing the family to Bon Jovi at Slane Saturday to see Bon Jovi minus Richie Sampora so a good weekend beckons
Morning guys and gals. Upson is class and much better than Mills. BUT HE's OLD AS THE HILLS!!!! Someone and obviously not us will pay a lot of cash for Hooper (A player we couldn't afford to buy at £1m) this will leave Celtic with cash for Doyle who's on £25k per week and Wolves can't afford him now. Doyle will not drop a huge bundle of cash to come to Leeds, so will go elsewhere or sit on his arse and pick up wages where he is. Bruce and Hull have offered £4m for Hooper already ......
Morning Eire, I just don't get it. How can other championship clubs efford players we can't. Even with average attendances of 25k, its more than most, surely?
Morning Doc, How much are our big hitters earning each week. A year ago when White re-signed, how much do we reckon he is on?
Elland we learned last year that Snodds was offered the biggest wage at ER which he refused. When we had beckford we learned he was on £4k per week before he went, as the club only offered to give him a 3-year extension but without a pay increase that we all knew he had earned. Bates was offering peanuts and hence we could never sign anyone of note. Its not the fee its the wages that he refused to pay. That leaves us getting end of their career old has beens who just want to carry on earning for a year or 2. EHD got an increase last summer as he was on £3k per week but got a raise and another year ..... I believe our top earners are on £12k per week, but very few and think Ross isn't one of them. Becchio thought he should be on a lot more, but didn't like what we offered so he went off and killed his career at Norwich. Makes sense to keep wages down to sensible levels, after all half a million a year is fantastic to the vast majority of fans, so £10k per week is great. But when other clubs are more ambitious and willing to spend £1.5m in wages, or even £2.5m py its ridiculous. So there will be no level playing field until a wage cap is introduced, and increasing parachute payments to clubs who failed only makes matters worse.
Morning all, I heard another rumour that Cardiff want Kenny - We need more players to leave before we bring anyone of any substance in surely?
Morning all. If we were to pay anything like £25k a week for Hooper, plenty of others (e.g. Byram & Ross) would also want £25k a week. So its not just about 1 player. So I for one am content that we don't pay top dollar for our players. Once we're in the PL, then we can have a major increase in wages. Lest we forget the "living the dream" era & what happened next. On travelling to matches, I did try to get to Brighon's falmer stadium last year. The train left London late. We had further delays in the journey to Brighton & then even further delays from Brighton to Falmer. The game had started. We were in for the same fun and games on the return journey, so I just change trains at Brighton & returned home. Seriously irritating, but no doubt not as long a journey as some. Talking of which, some Leeds fan travelled down to London a couple of years ago for the FA Cup match with Arsenal. Clearly he'd been drinking something on the journey down. Not only did he decide to then sell his ticket rather than travel the short journey from King's Cross, but he then proceeded to fall asleep in the pub & miss the entire game completely. Poor fella.
Makes sense to keep wages down to sensible levels, after all half a million a year is fantastic to the vast majority of fans, so £10k per week is great. But when other clubs are All valid points but in reality there wont be a wage cap. It's obvious gfh have taken lots of markers from Bates, Harvey and Williams, and with two of them still there running things, so presumably they will stick with the same ****e wage structure. I'm afraid, as the old saying goes, you pay peanuts, you get monkeys, so we may as well get used to it. Strange thing is, even paying low wages and attracting half decent crowds, were still losing money. Too many fat cats with their fingers in the till I think
Morning all Dont forget we are renting Elland Road and T/A which is a major drain on our funds, so we dont recoup all of a match day profit where most clubs do. Steve, you got mail bud
Good Morning to you all.Lets not get despondent Crystal P got promotion spending very little money .I personally think that Upson is far too oldMills wants too much money so I believe both will not come we need young hungry players with just one midfield general and captain over 30 Perkins
Leeds60, as I dont post in the playground that is JA606 often I'll point out to you over here that Beckford contract has been terminated at Leicester
Thats completely untrue. Beckford was on 10k a week before he left and said he would only re-sign if he was offered 15k a week. I think after Everton showed an interest offering lower prem wages (20k-25k) I don't think he ever considered staying. I also heard that Becchio was on 14k a week which is the same as Ross and Snoddy was offered 18k a week. No one with any sense would pay Doyle 25k a week, he just isn't worth it. This is all speculation (except Beckford, he was deffo on 10k a week asking for 15) obviously as there is no real way of knowing unless your associated with the club but as I understand we aren't by any means the worst wages in the league. Take away Leicester and the parachute payment teams then we are one of the better ones I imagine
