Morning Troops, Talk about sucker punch....... So Snodds is on his way, Warnock offered him an amazing package, but the lure of the Prem was too high. Thats three starlets that norwich have now stolen from us. I just hope some somer soon in the future WHEN the canaries fall off there pirch, we will be hovering like vulchures ready to pick off there pray. Then we can laugh and mock them. Warnock has been quoted in the papers as saying he has made a mistake. Apparantly Snodds turned down 15k a week to see out the last year of his contract, thoughts??? Is there any difference in what Norwich have done to us compared to what we are doing to Portsmouth. If that 3m does not get reinvested into the squad, I will personally track down Marko, and let me loose on Bates.... So folks, lets assume we have 3 or 4m to spend, who should we realistically go for??? Would you say that the events in the last 24 hours have saverely dented our promotion hopes?
The difference between us/Norwich & us/Portsmouth is that two of us have a bright future with Norwich being slightly brighter ha us at the moment & Portsmouth possibly going out of existence. As I've said elsewhere, love him or hate him but thanks to Papa Smurf, we're still here & we're in a much better position than where we were. We're financially sound, & likely to get sounder if this 'kin takeover ever happens. More to the point, as White has re-signed, even our Academy are now finally coming through & not having to be solved. In Colin we trust. MOT.... Morning by the way.
I sympathise with Snoddy as he is clearly good enough to play a part at the Premiership level. He clearly could not agree with assurances on ambition and with the sale and potential sales of our better (arguably) players, like Clayton and McCormack I can see his point. He is also in my opinion good enough for a starting spot in the Scotland XI and I can see his point about exposure. From the club side with the lack of money (if we're still under bates) taking 3m is a no brainer 'if' it is going to be invested back into the team. It's a bitter pill to swallow as I love the player, yet I trust Warnock did the upmost to keep him as has a relevant contingency for what has turned out to be the inevitable. Good luck to him. I don't like to talk realistically as It's not fun for me so... Riquelme or Del Piero for the playmaker void
Good luck to the lad..a shame but cant fault a guy for wanting premiership footy..probably had howson and johnson bending his ear all summer
supposedly offered the best contract in a decade so wasn't going to stay IMO, I loved the guy but if Warnock played him in the position he did at the end of last season he wouldnt have done any good anyway. Sell him get 3/4 promotion standard players
I think its very different to what we are doing to portsmouth. They need to sell these players to survive and we are almost helping them in this way by giving them money to try and stay afloat. Norwich on the other hand are trying to build a prem squad with the best players from the champ and it so happens that 3 of them are leeds players.
Fairly accurate state of affairs Josh. Any news on further incomings or any other outgoings - AOB & Paynter to name but two?
The sad thing about the Snods issue, is that he could obviously see what Warnock was doing, but maybe thought that the takeover has carried on too long. If a completion could have happened a couple of weeks ago and a couple of top signings happened, then maybe it would be different. Maybe he just felt that although things were happening it wouldn't guarantee promotion this season, because we would probably require the January window to complete the squad. Plus the deal may fall through. I wish Snods the best by the way and hope it works out for him. It just makes me laugh that a couple of seasons ago Snodds, Howson and BJ were the base of our promotion winning side and should have been built upon the season before last. We would now be in the prem, but showed no ambition and just sold our best players or allowed them to walk. Colin please get rid of Billy etc asap
We had a Butler at the heart of our defence in the past. Now we've got a butler at the heart of our attack... "I 'a'e you Butler!!! as was said regularly to Reg Varney, Luke's older brother!!!
"The Leeds United Supporters' Trust want to express our frustration and disappointment with the way the takeover of Leeds United is being handled. We believe the time has come for the fans to be told what is happening at their club," read a LUST statement. "The complete silence from the buyers and the wholly inadequate statements from the club itself have kept Leeds fans in the dark about what will become of their club after this summer. We respect the need for confidentiality and that the legal process needs time. However, we believe that Leeds United's fans should also be respected. "By not responding to calls from the fans for information, the new owners are not beginning this key relationship in a positive way. Our members want to support a transparent and open Leeds United and being kept in the dark about who currently owns or runs their football club does nothing to achieve this."
Afternoon all - Norwich are taking the cream of what we had, players approaching their peak who will and can improve. Apart from Pearce we are taking Portsmouth players well past their best and playing for a team that finished below us. I am so fed up with it all, guess because I have been on quite a positive high about where I believed we are heading for a while but for me despite everyone else on here feeling it was good business the writing on the wall started to appear when we signed Gray. If we sign Maynard we are losing McCormack - With new money coming in (is it?) why not keep McCormack and don't sign Gray - See my point? It is obvious to me that Cranie is either not first choice on Neil's wanted list or he isn't good enough, why else would he have not been offered a contract at the same time as Gray. Not sure how you can judge a defender that well when playing part timers in non league football. The LUST guys comment about Snoddy and the £750K asset value has also got me pissed off. We are getting nearer and nearer to kick off and Warnock said we need 3-4 quality signings, the next ones are important and we are about to say welcome to Norris after losing Snoddy, it beggars belief. If we bring in Maynard for McCormack and sign Peltier we are still a mile behind where we were at the start of last season, when you look at the teams who finished above us bringing in extra quality I can't help get the 'here we go again feeling'...
Sorry I don't mean to rub off on anyone, I prefer reading the positive comments myself. I just can't yet take anything positive out of what has happened since the season ended. Christmas was just 7 months ago - Never would I have believed anyone had they told me Howson, Snoddy, Clayton and McCormack will all have departed in the months ahead - Okay Clayton is with us at the moment but the writing is certainly on the wall for him.
Cosmic, don't knock barndoor billy. He's a sleeping giant that will save our season. Warnock's fending off bids for him as we speak!!!
