Morning Troops, A warm welcome from a rainy Southampton. How are we? Leicester, Leeds and Brighton are fighting it out for Matthew Upson. The 34 yo central defender has been on loan at Brighton last season season, but is now out of contract. Although the former England international has 21 caps to his name, he is not getting any younger. Would he be worth a two year contract? Can we efford his wages? What are they likely to be? We are believed to be on the verge of signing former Reading forward Noel Hunt. The 30-year-old, who was released by the Royals following their relegation to the Championship last season, is thought to be a prime target of Leeds boss Brian McDermott. Having worked together during their time at the Madejski Stadium, McDermott is keen to be reunited with Hunt, who has plenty of Premier League experience. I must admit I don't know too much about Hunt, but he must be better than the likes of Varney.... This Summer we seem to be linked to a better class of football. Could this be a good omen. Last season unless they has a link to Portsmouth, it was a no go. I really hope onew or two of our development squad turn out to be gems, like Byram. Suppose if I was a betting man, I'd have to say Dawson and Poleon. Lets hope they don't go off the boil like Gimpel who was released a few months ago.
Morning Elland. Wayne Bridge came with a hefty financial packet. Thats us out. I see what youre saying with us being linked with a better class of player with Upson and Hunt, but we've signed no one yet. It's these kind of rumours that frustrate every season. Im sure if they're still any good as they head towards the end of their careers, there will be others interested. We never sign anyone when others are interested. It's like the Doyle one. Theres not a cat in hells chance of him coming to us if Celtic are in the frame.
Morning all. Leaving the financial aspect of this aside, Bridge would have been one hell of a signing. C'est La Vie, a new LB was never hig on our list of targets anyway. Not sure about Hunt. I still hope we end up with either Beckford or Sharp.... either that or Billy Paynter makes a heros return & shows us what he can do!!! On all the others we're being linked with, I'll believe it when its on the website.

Dunne is finished Id say.A year out at his age will have taken its toll. Tell you one thing, to the best of my knowledge, no Irish player has been a letdown at Leeds through the years. Have all given 100%. Certainly makes more sense than signing unknown quantities like Robbie Rogers and Yabibou or whatever. Total waste of our scant resources
I know Elland, all the knowalls & geniuses who reckon he couldn't hit the side of a cow with a banjo would be rushing to get his autograph. Somehow I think there's more chance of me playing for Leeds than BP!!! I just wish we could hurry up and get our first signing through the door. At least that would give us all an indication of GHF's plans/financial well being. I still hope to see Sharp or Beckford through the door, a few of our academy stepping up, and those academey/young players who were out on loan last season making the step up to at least the bench. BMD is supposed to be working on a 3 to 5 year plan. So we just want to see an improvement on last season. Playoff has to be the bare minimum, with hopefully a serious challenge from day one for auto.
I go to Mexico on the 16th June and I can't bloody wait so I can forget about who we are signing! Hopefully when I return on 1st July we will have signed someone! I too hope that the development squad really start playing a key role in the team! High hopes for Poleon but Dawson I need to see more of. For me we need to stop thinking about strikers and look at wingers its simple our team has no width and that's why we were so bad because we were predictable atleast if you play with wingers you can go down the middle or on either wing, the proof is in the pudding just look at the run we went on when we had an out and out winger (Jerome Thomas) playing in the team... As for Noel Hunt I would be happy with this signing on a free, he has a lot of energy and can score goals at this level although this would spell the end for Varney in my opinion. MOT
