Just been reminded whilst watching Newcastle/QPR on MOTD2 when they said about Cabaye's injury making Newcastle play better about something I noticed yesterday.

Joe Lewis' kicking right from the beginning of the game was abysmal, from when Evans got booked for that challenge on him though I think every kick went to it's intended target.

Are there any other examples of either a player's performance improving after picking up a knock, or an injury forcing a substitution that wouldn't otherwise have happened but turned the game in a team's favour?
