great 1st half. we had fight, determination, won the 1st and 2nd balls, lots of energy about us, attacked and attacked, good pass and movement, looked comfortable at the back, dominated possession and going forward - we looked very much up for it. went in at half time fully deserving the 2 nil lead. only complaint was it should have been 4 or 5 nil but for ex gas keeper poke who made some great saves to keep it down to 2 nil. i thought their player who got a red card should of been sent off instead of his 1st yellow on hammer which resulted in hammer having to go off injured. justice was done though when he picked up his 2nd yellow soon after. poor start to the 2nd half. we never really turned up for the 2nd half. looked like we sat back thinking the game was won instead of taking the game to torquay to really finish them off and make a statement to the rest of the league. typical that both howe and downes (both ex gas players) both scored past us. in this spell we looked like we were the team with 10 men as we just dropped our heads and i thought we were going to give the 3 points away. wayne brown coming on was the turning point. he was the spark that we needed to get back into the game that we were about to lose. the performance levels from the 1st half began to show in the 2nd and we were then back to dominating the game and created several chances and thankfully got the crucial goal. we wasted several good chances and like the 1st half we could of got another 2 or 3 goals in the later stages of the 2nd half. i was really impressed with norburn, clarkson and eaves today. eaves should of got his hattrick. overall i had us to lose this game as torquay are a good side so 3 points is a great result and apart from the 1st 20 mins of the 2nd half, the teams performance was top notch something i havent seen at the mem for a good few seasons. next 2 games are away to wimbledon on tuesday and accrington on saturday and we should be at least getting 4 points from these games which should put us in a good place with a game in hand. things beginning to look bright
Agree CJ best for some time at the mem we bar 10 mins dominated the first half a joy to watch,switched off second half which led to giving Howe the room to score and OMG was everyone asleep when Downes scored!! Got the three points we actually deserved Clarkson played well all but the 20 mins in the second half Eaves is a tremendous prospect and Lund played really well again both outta position gentlemen next to me said that it is the best he has seen Rovers play and he has watched them since the 50's (a really long time) other than the 20mins !! I really enjoyed watching the style of football we played and agree WB injected pace and grit in midfield (although he seemed to be in attack mostly) easy replacement for Anyinsah. Wimbeldon will be a different prospect than Torquay on Tuesday. COR
Agree with most above, abit disappointed that we let them back into the game, another goal and the first half would probably have been as good as it could possible get at this level. Can only dream that we could sign Etherington & Eaves eventually, both great additions to our squad, the type of players we require to kick on and get out of this league.
I felt more relief than anything coming out after the game. Typical Rovers, play the best we've seen for ages in the 1st half and nearly blow it in the 2nd In all I'm a happy Gashead. McG has got us moving at last. Taking me ages to type this cos I had a few after the game..... as usual Now am off to give mrs Gas some lovin I never felt more like singing the blues when Rovers win and c###82 loose
I didn't get to the game today and am pleased to see we pulled through. The bizarre thing is that although we have had an awful start to the season with delayed signings and an appalling injury list, the Gas are only five points off the playoff list with a game in hand. If luck had been on our side that would be two points. OK, they are a lot of teams in between the Gas and seventh place, but we are heading in the right direction and on present form in the top half dozen of the current form league. So things are a lot better and perhaps we can affod to be a bit more optimistic again! I am away for the board next week, off to see Barcelona (shurrup Wiz before you start) play Celtic. Could that be a good omen?
