Don't know if it's been mentioned but spokesman from Newcastle City council was very to the point when interviewed on BBC Look North.

" We're not in the business of giving Mr Ashley free advertising so won't be changing the name of SJP Metro Station or approach road SJ Boulevard".

    Ouch!

Footnote: piece on BBC Look North tonight mentioned World Cup games require SJP to be the stadium name in broadcast rights!! Ha

Good heavens! Can you imagine?! Sports Direct Arena Station! <yikes>

Total common sense decision by the council, fair play.

I think one of the top men on the council is a big toon fan so he won't be wanting to give Ashley much.

It's the Olympics they can't change the name for.

Makes more sense. Unless Newcastle is being moved to Qatar it makes no difference what FIFA want for the World Cup.

The Rugby World Cup is going to be in England?

But, on the Olympic side of things. Wont, MA have to take all his Sports Direct advertising down for the games? I know there is a rule on Stadium Names, so surely there must be a rule on advertising in the stadium too?
