He is simply awful. How the hell he stayed on for 85 mins is beyond me. What game is Monk watching!! This guy is likely our highest earner and he has to be better...Ayew up front with Barrow wide, or give our $5m man Eder a chance FFS
The man knows there is no one of quality to push him for his place, not that he is quality. THIS IS MONKS FAULT for not bringing a quality striker into the club.Hold your hands up Monk and admit you fukd up........BIG STYLE.
The way he's going I'd try almost anyone instead at the moment ! Eder is on the books so must start ? Even trundle would do better I recon though he's been out to long to get back in he would show more skill ! Now that's a damning thing to say but just shows how **** gomis has become and you can't afford to have a striker for even a month at this level ?
What riled me yesterday was that sly smirk on his face when he fluffed the 1 on 1. You could see in his eyes that he didn't give a damn. I'd rather play with 10 men tbh. Makes you wonder if he did that on purpose yesterday.
Gomis is getting it right in the neck from us fans now. And only he can turn it around by getting a shed load of goals pronto ! Otherwise that Panther thing he did after scoring will be looked back on as a joke !
^^^ (post 7) You're getting carried away now, Valley. Smiling when he misses a chance is just his way. Did he miss it on purpose? That's daft. In an attempt to provide a bit of balance here, his goal-scoring record at the end of last season / beginning of this season was one of the best in the PL. It's now 7 games without a goal and that's not great, but strikers go through barren spells. Therefore, I'm not too surprised that Monk has stuck with him. The question is, at what point does Eder get given the nod, and most on here seem to think his time has come.
I disagree with you there 5, how do we know Eder isn't good enough, he is given all of 8 minutes at the end of each game. He is being selected by Portugal and scored against Italy in his last outing. Why oh why wont we give him a go. What also worries me is GM comments that he is not worried that Gomis isn't scoring any goals. Call me old fashioned but surely the main job of a striker is to score goals and ours couldn't hit a cows arse with a banjo.
Gomis is awful right now. Just awful. I find it hard to justify Monk starting with him. His touch is poor and his finishing non-existent. Surely Eder can't be any worse?
The issue for me, is that Gomis is affecting the confidence of the whole team, especially our forward line, it's clearly visible when we are in the final third, and if Monk fails to drop him, then sooner than later Monk is going to be dropped. We have the next 2 games to pick ourselves up, and we will not do it with Gomis leading the line. I would prefer that we went with no striker at all if Monk has no confidence in Eder, but how can he determine that, the lad only gets 10 minutes at the end of games, and where is Emnes?.....................
We've got Ayew who can play up front...montero and a fit again routledge on the flanks ..keep eder on the bench, and leave gomis out of the match day squad, see if he's still smirking then!
Why would you want to keep Eder on the bench, how do you actually judge him, have you seen him play in the PL. We signed him as a striker and our other one is playing gash. So logic says give our so called second choice his chance, otherwise why waste 5 m on him. It is just poor management.
...particularly when you bear in mind that Eder recently played for Portugal. Good enough for a very capable international team but not the Swans? I don't buy it.
I wasn't aware of that, TLF. Maybe Monk isn't either. One wonders whether he's one of those managers who has his favourites.
I cant think of any other reason other than that, surely by now any manager worth his salt would have tried someone else up top. It's not just about the lack of goals I don't think he is doing much else in open play.
