I hope we can do better than this. His goal scoring record is very poor and has already not done very well in a loan spell at Fulham. I just hope this is a bit of paper talk.

On the subject of Monk, he's looking a bit inexperienced over a few things. Probably because he's inexperienced. I suspect he'll learn and improve. Lucky he's not so bad that we're at the bottom of the table.

As for Gomis, I think we've had a long tradition of getting rid of players that want to go. I've always liked that policy and we should stick to it.

At no point am I saying we should 'splash the cash', but I am concious that we have an amount of money to replace when necessary. I think we're ok.

Gomis was quick enough to take the contract and the large amount of money that went with it so i have no sympathy for him at all. What did he expect as he must have known we play one up front and never two and have done for years, It's our trade mark style, He must have known he was brought in as back up for Bony as i dont believe for one second he was told he would play along side bony. I know he dont speak much english but surely one of his representatives would have explained things to how Swansea play their football. Sell him if we get the right offer or stick him in the reserves to teach him that he cant make waves after being paid handsomely and no player is bigger than the club...

I think we should put that achievement down to the attitude of the players rather than anything Monk has given us. Just sayin'.

"Yes, we finished seventh, which was one place higher than the previous season, but I put that achievement down to the attitude of the players rather than anything Paulo Sousa gave us", so sayeth the Monkster.

Very similar to the situation with Ki - a good job the manager sent him on loan and we are reaping the rewards.

It's just been reported by the Daily Telegraph that Swansea paid Gomis an £8 million signing on fee. Staggering if true, no wonder Newcastle couldn't agree terms with him.

And he's complaining about not being played? I would imagine that is paid over the term of his contract rather in one lump sum. I'm complaining about him not being able to put a shot on target.

Standard practice. But, now we can all understand the HUGE reluctance to sell Gomis on whether we think he's up to the task or not. We would take a loss on the transaction unless it was above a certain amount. Somebody didn't game this one out when they signed him - who does this business and legal analysis ... I wonder. Gomis is not happy but apparently holds some trump cards. Anyway somebody is going to cry uncle on this or the remainder of the contract is going to be an abrasive situation, especially if other clubs actually put offers on the table below our cash out and the agent agitates through the player.

As Harry Griffiths said .... "Football is a simple game. It's people that make it complicated". No ****.

I just cant believe that we would still have to stump up the £8 mill if he leaves, how stupid is that?? I would understand that if we wanted to get rid of him then fine we would have to honour the contract, but if he decides to go then it his him that is breaking those terms and as such should forego the remainder of it. It just makes a mockery of the whole contract/signing on fee/salary set up for football players. What is stopping any player from agreeing a ridiculous signing on fee and just walking away after a couple of weeks and still receive that money!!! It can only happen in football.
It works out that he is on over £93k a week (the reported £55k plus £8mill over 4 years which works out at £38k per week) no wonder the likes of Newcastle et al didn't sign him!!

I hope the details are not quite as bad as this. 8 million signing on, payable not matter how long he stays and an apparent 7 million release clause. I agree it is no surprise Gomis chose Swansea over Newcastle.

I think the signing was made because they were convinced someone would put in 20 million + offer for Bony in the Summer. In addition HJ was keen to prove the club could attract players in post Laudrup era. Do we have to accept that for Swansea to attract top players ahead of top half teams we have to offer this type of contract? It reports are true, Gomis would appear "mercenary" as opposed to players / managers who give their all for Swansea but admit they want to move on to bigger clubs if and when the opportunity comes about.

The job for Monk and HJ is now to persuade Gomis he can do the same. I think he has lots of potential, so hopefully management can settle him down.
