A journalist asks Beckham to speak one word in French and he opts for Bonjour. She giggles. That's understandable. (He hasn't had time to learn what the French is for "Hijo de puta" for which he got his first red card at Real)

The midfielder confirms his wife (Mrs Victoria Beckham) and his children will remain in London while he is in Paris. (Understandable cos she said while hubby was at Real that Madrid always stinks of garlic, then Paris will not be any different)

Mr Beckham gets his fair share of stick, with the over-rated tag often stuck to him, but I think that was down to people confusing his celebrity status for praise of his ability - in my mind he's often under-rated as a player, with complaints of his lack of pace especially lazy when he would then pick out a striker's head from 100+ yards...

A model professional and apparantly a good human being too.

Always thought Becks was a top player and a top bloke. Good luck to him, he knows he can afford it and has no problem with it...good on him.
Would love to see some of the overpaid prima donnas from the prem do something just as nice, but I won't hold my breath.

Perhaps you can tell from my initial post that I'm not his number one fan. If he really wants to be philanthropical and donate all his wages to charity, he should remember that charity begins at home.
Could have signed for a club in London and then it would go to British children and not those from another nation.

He said he didn't want to play for another team in England due to his Manchester united loyalty.

He has said that loads of times and fair play to him stuck to his word on it. Harry tried to get him to Tottenham as well.
I'm got nothing against him or his wife both of them know excatly how to promote a image and people forget that she has a successful business as well. I bet she had something in that decision to donate his wages knowing that it would promote the Beckham brand a bit more.

And if he turned up at AG we would all be drooling over his passes and crosses.

Overpaid, overhyped, but luckily for us not over here.

If self interest and greed were admirable virtues then he'd be a top bloke.

Playing downs league football in America was just about more money and publicity. Luckily a lot of the Americans saw what a fraud he was.

One of those people who polarises opinion! In some people’s eyes he can do no wrong whilst others believe the opposite.

I’m in the former camp and think he a top bloke and great footballer who appears to have been appreciated by all the managers he’s ever worked under. Comes across as being a model professional who will go the extra mile to get things right (just like Jody Morris really!)

“Over-hyped” – don’t know about that one. You don’t get to play on a regular basis for the likes of Man U, Real Madrid and Milan if you ain’t that good!

Again, appears to be a model family man who is married and dotes on his wife (whatever you think of her) and his children.

The charity thing – why not publicise it? As others have said, it might be the lead that is needed for others in the top European leagues, particularly the Prem, to follow. God knows, it would be nice to see some of our “stars” come out in a positive light for once!

Best crosser of a ball i have seen in my lifetime - worked hard on the training pitch - not as thick as the media portray him

    Nope, thicker

Only saved by his vast entourage who tell him what to wear/say/do

Thick as **** and twice as nasty

Worst England Captain ever, and worst disciplinary record of any England player having been sent off twice. The petulance against the Argies was unbelievable

    Nasty!!

    Unbelievable!!

Sketch was v Argentina Simeone nailed him with a knee into the small of his back and he flicked his leg up. The referee misread the situation and over reacted. I see worse at the coaching of six year olds at soccer schools sunday.

As a role model he is pretty good, watch his feet, two footed, excellent control and skilled.

As I said, polarises opinion - might as well give him the nickname of marmite, cos there's no half way house with DB!!

As somebody involved in coaching we should be encouraging kids to emulate his technique. Very few from this Isle have had the ability to play in leagues where ball retention is a primary skill. Those skills only appear through hard work

Completely agree with you Cliftonville, but not everybody sees it that way. I would love to know whether real footie fans in Spain, Italy, USA and shortly France have the same really diverse attitude toward him as a footballer.

I find it weird how anyone can not like Beckham. He's a true gent and a great footballer. So what he isn't the smartest person on the planet. He's served his country well and give us a good name. I don't think there's a person on this planet who doesn't know who David Beckham is. One of the most successful footballers of all time.
