Frankie Dettori's feat of riding all the winners in one afternoon was (rightly) massive news at the time, and certainly I had never seen that happen before. However, it had.

Not many on here were race watching in 1957, but at the now defunct Bogside track one sunny July afternoon. Alec Russell went through the card, with seemingly no recognition whatsoever!

I think Sky Sports News covered it in their evening highlights reebs <ok>

Ah no, it was 1957. Perhaps someone shook his hand?

A stellar performance nontheless. Even though I wasn't born, I had a 2 bob e/w accy on his mounts. Honest.

Me too Oddy, I was at school at the time and had just been made a bookies runner in my dinner breaks. Unfortunately school bully, Basher Bastard, flattened me and took my winnings :)

Joao Moreira rode 8 from 8 at Kranji in September of 2013.

At the other end of the spectrum, I remember reading about a hunt jockey from the dim dark past who bragged of having something like 19 falls from 18 rides. It seems that on one occasion he fell from the stretcher on the way to the ambulance. :)

Just came across an interesting bit of info on Wiki. Don't know how true it is but it seems that the great Sir Gordon Richards once won 12 races in a row in 1933. It's still a world record.

<laugh> I went and checked it out at other sites, they all say the same. I was brought up to believe Richards was the greatest of all time, but then I discovered the truth, Aussies are bloody geniuses when it came to sport. Now I see Sir Gordon as being a bit over rated. Anyone can win 26 Premierships.

Ah, beware of Wikipedia, Cyc. The 12-on-the-bounce is right (last on day 1 at Nottingham, all six on day 2 at Chepstow, first five on day 3 also at Chepstow). Can't verify this but I seem to remember that his sixth ride on day 3 was second. But - and this is where pub pints are won and lost - I'm practically certain it was 1934.

Did I see a midweek headline that said Massive Cyclone hits Queensland Coast ? You been cheating on the diet again ?

Had a cyclone about 500k North of here. It was to pass over my brothers island, but luckily it veered seaward during the night, then passed just below him. All we got was serious rain. The town where I live was cut off due to flood waters.

I was about to say if Sir Gordon as involved I bet most of those wins were at Chester, but I obviously would have meant Chepstow.<laugh>

I went through the card at Ascot once. With a screwdriver I think it was. Terrible day.

I do believe that a bookmakers in Greenford had to close down a a result of that race meeting. The Drayton Manor Shadow Racing Champion did a proper brown envelop job <whistle>
