that Wilshere does not already bring? I must confess I have only seen him play a handful of times... and think he is not dissimilar to Wilshere..... I am just wondering if rumours are to be believed that he is going to cost upwards of 25mill, could this money not be better spent elsewhere to strenghten the team?

I still think we need to replace one of Nasri or Fabregas. Wilshere is top quality no doubt, but like RVP we need more than one, that's what it will take to compete with the likes of City and Utd.

So how do you play Arteta, Wilshere, Goetze, Ramsey, Rosicky and Song.....I thought Arteta replaced Cesc? Do you not think we have become more compact (maybe not as expansive) with the departure of Nasri and Cesc?

Yeah I'd agree we have become more compact and love the way that Song and Arteta work really hard in MF to allow the fullbacks to get forward.
Arteta is a quality player, but at nearly 30, he's not a long term solution and Rosicky probably only has 1-2 season left at Arsenal too.
We've got a great young midfield coming through, Wilshere, Ramsey, Song, Frimpong and Coquelin - I think Gotze at 19 could be the creative maestro that would grow with this group of players to form a formidable midfield together.

Gotze, Wilshere, Song. Cracking midfield there.

I see your point, just thought with Wilshere, Goetze falls in the "nice to have category" like an optional extra...there are more pressing needs.... a clinical striker to take the weight off RVP.....What do I know...

I think the solutions are not always the obvious ones. We could play OXO on the right and Walcott up front. Also with a creative engine in MF it would also allow our attacking players to score more. You're right to a point though that Wilshere probably already is this player, but I just think that our team would benefit enormously from having a player like Gotze, especially as we will have to replace Arteta in 2-3 seasons.

Goetze is alot more attacking than Wilshere.

He plays in more of a xavi-esque role. (except he's alot more mobile)

Wilshere--Song---Goetze would be a balanced brilliant midfield. Goetze and Wilshere are in my opinion to two best young midfield talents in europe. To have both in one team would be ridiculous.

Agree Bear <ok> Gotze is more of an attacking CM, than Wilshere as a creative CM. Both are exceptionally good talents and whats more, along with Song, they can all handle themselves against players who want to kick lumps out of them.

I agree that a MF of Wilshere - Song - Gotetze could become one of the best in the Premier League.

I think he's worth every bit of £25m

@The Bear and Piskie..... Must say I agree with both your analysis (did say what do I know!). Do you guys REALLY think we would get him in the January window then? More importantly, will Dortmund sell if they are still in the Champions League?

I don't think he'll come in January. Although it's looking tough for Dortmund to qualify now though, I think they will hold out for top money for their prize asset and I think he'd be a summer signing if we did get him.

It would be great to get some kind of pre contract agreement though if Dortmund want to do business. Because in the summer, I think there are going to be a host of top clubs in for him. Once the City's and Madrid's get involved, I fear we would be priced out.

How can you say Goetze is a lot more attacking than Wilshere (who is naturally an attacking midfielder - anyone who saw him play youth team football knows this) then say he plays a more Xavi-esque role and Xavi is neither attacking or defensive ? Xavi picks the ball up from deep and plays balls in all directions, simple passes, he isn't a dribbler - Wilshere is.

Some reports are suggesting Wenger might offer Arshavin and Bendtner + and a packet of Bratwurst sausages as a makeweight in the deal ......

Doesn't Gotze play on the left for Dortmund?
