Just got in from a 17hr shift at work and caught the end of the Olympics coverage. They did a little montage of a few of our medal winners today and it made me feel very proud to be British. I know people got that feeling from the Jubilee but sadly that wasn't for me. But seeing these sports men and women achieve so much has really got to me. Can't wait for my visit on Wednesday to see one of the Women's hockey Semi finals and already planning to take my daughter to the Paralympics. Well done to you all !!!
I missed the majority of events today due to a work mates wedding. I was cursing him this evening as I checked my phone for updates. Why today of all days? The internet was buzzing as the evening progressed and I really wished that I could of witnessed them, even if only on TV. I get quite emotional watching the Olympics, I always get a lump in my throat as the Union Jack rises in victory, and you see the gold medal winners realisation that four hard years of honest endeavour has come to fruition. I shall watch the highlights once I've finished reading through this lot on here.
As an Aussie I'm absolutely gutted at how badly we've performed. And I certainly hope the govt will conduct a full enquiry when the games are over. It's a national disgrace and a royal waste of taxpayers money. But as a fan of sport I can only admire the performances of the Brits. To perform when it matters most, under pressure in front of a home crowd and to do it in such style is a sight to behold. I can only imagine how proud you must feel. The rowing, cycling and now athletics....absolutely phenomenal. To me you've been the stand out nation so far. The US...well, they're the US and China are a bunch of drug (sorry herbal enhancement) taking clowns. I'm of Chinese descent and believe me, they take something. Sadly for us Aussies, it'll be some time before we can feel proud of our athletes again. Enjoy the rest of the games.
To be fair, you aint half racking up the silvers, so when you get a couple of golds you'll rise right up the table, both of us have had great success at olympics the last couple of times though. Nice to see we only got 1 gold at the 1996 games, quite a big improvement.
You 12th, are the first Aussie that has been gracious in defeat. For that i commend you. Well done mate, if only WE could get the rest of this country to be like us it would greatly enhance us all. Love the Oz/Eng rivalry and happily give credit to all the Oz athletes that make it so hard for team GB. all we're doing is what Australia did at the Sydney olmpics.....Crowd makes a massive diffrence. Good luck to both teams....but mainy team GB !!-sorry
Right now I just hope we finish above kazakhstan. We had it good in sport for a while but good things don't last forever. To be fair most of us accept that now. It's definitely a humbling experience. I just don't like to sugar coat anything and I hope for our sake the team are vilified when they return. It's the same with qpr. If we're s*** then say we're s*** and tell us what you're going to do to turn it around. It's our money that's funding the sports after all.
I always expect the Aussies to be one of the best nations at swimming and to be GB's main challengers on the bikes
...........and so you should. Well done to our neighbours for the performance of team GB to date and for your running of the olympics.
Never been more proud of my country. As the world watched a black man named Mohammed and a mixed race girl beat the world. I was crying my eyes out!
I do hope so mate, i cant find out where our girls need to finish to be in my semi final (the one at 1530). To be honest that would just be the icing on the cake 'cos just being there will be an experience. I wasn't really that bothered at first but now i'm actually looking forward to it. And no i won't be wearing a GB wig and floppy hand ....
I sat glued to it all day yesterday. I've always been a track cycling fan and it's great to see team GB at the peak of their performances, long may it continue. As for the athletics, I think we all expected Jessica Ennis to triumph, but it still reduced me to tears. And what a fabulous lady she is, nothing pretentious or arrogant about her at all. That was followed by Greg Rutherford in the long jump, while that was going on Mo Farrah was pounding around the track on his way to Britain's first ever 10,000 metres gold medal, at the moment he crossed the winning line I was unashamedly crying like a baby! As has already been said, what a day to be British, and I'm so pleased I was able to witness it on TV, but it must have been fantastic to have been in that stadium last night, a real "I was there when" moment.
I was there on Friday and saw Argie men draw with the Aussies and the Dutch then annihalate the Kiwis...sat in the park and watched us win cycling and rowing medals...and sang the National Anthem at the top of my voice....A MAGICAL MOMENT God I love the Olympics
Havn't seen you for a while Beth to say thanks for the heads up to use West Ham Station. My mate said it was a very good idea with lots of helpers showing them the way. And him and his family LOVED the Opening ceremony, was a once in a lifetime experience.
I took my wife and daughter to watch Brazil play Honduras at football at St James Park on Saturday afternoon. It was wonderful to feel part of the Olympics (this was the second Olympic football match we had been to) and there was a carnival atmosphere among the fans, particularly as there were three Brazilian samba bands playing their stuff. One of them was about thirty yards from us, have to say they produced an incredible rhythym, almost everyone joined in. Great stuff.
