For a minute I thought it was April 1st and then I realised that we are still in August! http://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/ipswich..._ipswich_town_on_non_contract_terms_1_2359387 This on top of the fact that we have only spent 20K this Summer. Perhaps we should entice Alan Brazil out of retirement for a season. Splash some cash Evans or feck off
Absolutely daft, this option is going to give us nothing, we are going to start going down the same route as the Jewell era, when we were labelled 'Dads Army', this is a backward step, this is hardly going to rectify the badly needed pace we need in the team
On the other hand you could look at another way, we have probably sunk to about as low a place as we can get with this move.....therefore the only way is up isn't it..?
Well one thing is for sure I can't see MM hanging around for much longer as he wont want another relegation battle this season. A golden opportunity has been missed this Summer and I don't blame MM I blame the faceless one who hides behind all this FFP crap!
I think you could be going abit OTT. We have signed him as a youth coach who will be eligable to play if required. If we had signed him on playing terms or if he plays regularly i may be concerned but Im fairly certain we wont see him barring injury or very bad form by others. Not a signing worth getting excited about but not worthy of a 'we're doomed, sack the board' comment either.
Well, we aren't paying him in a playing capacity so I imagine he'll literally only be called upon in a 'needs must' situation. Given that he's already at the club and we already employ him it is very very low risk. That said he certainly isn't the 'exciting striker' that we have been longing for and it does beg the question as to whether this signing is a masterstroke MM decision or a forced one as he realizes we need cover and hasn't the resources to bring anyone of any worth in instead. I must admit though, his goal scoring stats with us are pretty good - 34 goals in around 100 appearances. We haven't had a more prolific striker than that since Darren Bent or possibly Marcus Stewart
If there was ambition at this club then why haven't we brought in the likes of Doyle, Sharp, Lita to name but 3?
Warky - there are two things here. Firstly, getting Lee signed up is a sound and sensible move. Secondly, you're absolutely bang on about the lack of investment. MM has lost his mojo and who can blame him, I'm sure he's as livid as we are.
I have to say I like the fact the club have started getting their house in order with FFP and also announced going to Cat 1 academy this summer, it's nice we're trying to build a settled side. Yes admittedly I've advocated bringing in a better quality of player than we've signed but that doesn't mean spending shed loads on names like Sharp etc and who knows perhaps there was some money to spend this summer and Mick decided not to spend it because he thought who he got in was good enough? As for the Alan Lee thing, it makes sense I geuss, we're not paying him extra (unless he plays) and given our lack of striking options currently it makes sense. I saw him in a few games last season and whilst he's not clearly as potent as he used to be, he was still a pain in the backside for defenders, (I don't think that can be said for many of our strikers currently). Whilst it's not the player we were all hoping for (by a long shot) I think it actually improves our forward line, although I think that says alot about what I think to most of our strikers currently. Some of the crosses we put in against Leeds were good but we haven't really got anyone attacking them, Murphy can win headers but we haven't had someone who really attacks crosses coming in the box for years, well since Lee!!!
