I never thought that I would use the words sense and FIFA in the same sentence but I do over this when it seems that their main criterea for this technology was that the Referee had to be told one way or the other within 1 second. I have to assume that a device is put into the ball to distinguish it from a human body etc.
Who is for this on here? I'm undecided for once on something. One of the reasons why football works so well as sport is it flows we've all been to the odd ugly game with plenty of stopping and starting etc, what I'm getting at will every little incident be judged using video technology because that would ruin how the game flows. If it's a short and sweet decision made in a control room with the 4th official then I wouldn't object to it but without sounding negative we all know it will be like American football with countless replays on the screen to the crowd.
I think theres few excuses for goaline technology now, so that those moments such as the weekend can be eradicated once and for all. But using teachnology for the wider decisions needs to be thought about alot more carefully and tested extensively so that we don't dive into something and open a seperate can of worms
We all want football to be free flowing with minimal stops as Northants said, but we also want goals and fair play! When you get incidents like the one in the FA cup, or when spurs played Man u last season at old trafford, i dont see how we can go on much longer with out it? I dont think its going to affect many match's over the course of a season after all how many times would we have called it into play this season? With the crazy money in football now i dont see how there is much of a choice? And it would be quite exciting waiting for that call from the 3rd umpire and GOAL or NO GOAL to appear on the score board ?
What concerns me is the moment we have goal line technology, gradually they'll adopt it for other decisions. I've always liked the idea of having a goal line type linesman yes some people will hate that and why use something that seems old fashioned with all this technology we have, if a decision has to go to a 4th official in a control room they have to analyse the evidence, let's also take into account the idiots at FIFA would love the drama it would be like the penalties in Rugby. Someone running the line will be prone to the occasional error but it will be quick efficient and more importantly it would allow the game to flow.
