Strong stories coming in that after only two matches into the season, goalkeeping coach Jose Carreira has left the Club. Conflicting stories as to the reason, but there do seem to be language difficulties for both Fabri and Rico with others. As well, Carreira did have a ding dong with Scotty Parker on the touch line with Scotty Parker at the end of the Palace match. And a reminder here, it was on Carreira's recommendation (or so we're told) that Fabri joined from Besiktas. Whatever is behind the resignation, all a bit worrying. Carreira was brought in very quietly last January by Jokanivic and with a reputation as "an outstanding goalkeeping coach". To lose him this early puts a lot of pressure on the Gaffer. Presumably Vic Bettinelli will again take over the role, at least temporarily. {The same Vic Bettinelli who was demoted (or so we're told) for recommending Button.]
This whole goalkeeper issue could have been easily avoided had we just kept Bettinelli in, giving him the chance I think he deserved, now we got the goalkeeper coach leaving for unknown reasons. Bit of a mess if you ask me. Sometimes continuity is better. Bringing in one keeper for competition was OK, but getting 2 in was suspicious or very poor planning. My feelings are a goalkeeper needs to communicate during a match with his defenders to be an effective part of the defence. It was something I thought that Button was poor at and I think the defence got more confident with Bettinelli shouting at them and not putting them under undue pressure with the balls he played out to them.
This has to be about Fabri surely??? The fact we paid £5 million for an established keeper known to our goal keeper coach to then bring in Rico on deadline day suggests disagreements to me.
Bit of a debate one another forum about who’s the most talented keeper, someone said Betts while others said he’s never done it at the top level??? I always find this a strange argument with keepers because weather it’s Neymer or Woodrow clean through... Ronaldo or smith shooting from out wide or Suarez or Joe Bloggs shooting from 20 yards out your positioning, angles and handling has to be spot on or people will notice??
