Mannone ,Guzan,Stockdale all having had spells on loan at Hull are now plying their trade in the EPL on a regular basis.Indeed their has been mention of Mannone attracting interest from Man.U. In my opinion Alan MacGregor is a better keeper than any of the above .
    What do others think?

Mannone was awesome when he was here, and I would have loved us to sign him. Guzan was alright for us but never showed the full potential he has shown at Villa. Stockdale was a solid and usually dependable keeper who did the job he needed to, but Championship is his level imo.

McGregor has surpassed them all comfortably. He's arguably the best keeper the club has ever had. (Sorry Boaz)

As if Mannone has been linked with Man Utd...

I think McGregor's better than all 3, though I'd say Mannone and Guzan run him quite close. He's better than Myhill too.

I reckon McGregor wouldn't look out of place in any team in this division.

Hard to say whether he is better than Norman, as it was a while back now. Norman seemed exceptional at the time, making regular ungettable saves.

Irrespective, McGregor is world class and we are lucky to have him.

If I'm being picky I'd say his weaknesses are command of the penalty area and organising defensive walls.

Although the outfield players are also gullible for the latter.

    Guzan was awful.

    Stockdale did his job.

    Liked Mannone.

I never really rated Guzan when he was here, but he seems to come on leaps and bounds ever since returning to Villa.

I thought Mannone was brilliant, he also loved the fans.

Stockdale was decent, but never Premier League quality IMO.

Overall, for some reason, we have done very well in the goalkeeping department, McGregor carries on that tradition.

I'd rather have done well in the striking department though.

Disagree, successful teams are built from the back. Once you have a solid defense then you can improve your attack. Look at Man City, barely conceded a goal for years at the Etihad, and now this season suddenly scoring for fun.

But as pointed out by various pundits, Man City's weakness is their defence. They're dependent on Kompany. They just adopt the "we'll score more than you" policy.

How many goals do they concede at home?

I try to only consider players who I have been around to see.

(Which is why I ignore Pele and Maradona and choose Zidane when someone discusses who is the greatest ever. Yashin and Beckenbauer are usually the exceptions)

Don't know, don't care. Can't be arsed to check if I'm perfectly honest.

But it's obvious to everyone that defence is Man City's weakest point. Why would this even need discussion?

Definitely agree that McGregor is the best we've had in the last 20 years, although Billy Bly and Tony Norman would rank higher IMO.

Of the others Mannone was the best, Boaz was a great shot stopper but had a weakness on crosses and long shots, Guzan has improved enormously since he was with us, and Stockdale is not Prem quality IMO.

McGregor was another of Bruce's great signings and is as good as any keeper in the Prem right now.
