Read several reports, early this morning saying that MJ is heading the line to sign Plymouths young 18yr old goalkeeper. ?. we seem to have an abundance of of them all around this age group. What does this say about Stockdales long term prospects at the Cottage. Could the senario be Stockdale 1st choice in 2 years, with this lad brought in and groomed as our long term keeper
I suspect it's not as carefully planned as that, Roscafre. Probably the club is just wanting to make sure that we have a good stock of goalkeeping talent through the age range, so that when the time comes for a change we've got options. I'm less confident that Stockdale will be our number 1 one day than I was a year or two ago, but I don't think we'll know who is replacing Schwarzer (or replacing Schwarzer's replacement) until it actually happens. In the meantime, bringing in new young talent in any position can only be a good thing, can't it?
This. Stockdale probably does not have the vote of confidence he once had. The more options the better...
I'll add another to the list Sinan Bolat. We nearly signed him in the summer but he had a knee problem and the story goes that we did make a deal (with caveats) to take him in January. A story recently resurrected - http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2203139/Sinan-Bolat-set-Fulham.html There are currently 8 keepers on the books (2 are out on loan). If Jol is looking to bring in more he must have misgivings about (some of) the current lot. For what it's worth I believe Bolat will come in to deputise for Schwarzer with Etheidge being back-up and Stockdale and Symogyi will move on. The youngster from Plymouth may be for the start of a new wave.
Here's one reason why I believe Neil Etheridge will become our No1 keeper - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X0MFeAJNMgI
Good save. I quite like the Phillipines kit too - the black and red trim would look quite good as a Fulham shirt. Just saying.
