I've read a few comments today, and indeed over the past weeks, about our erratic finishing as a team. We couldn't get the second against Sunderland, we went to Stoke and couldn't put one away, we put ourselves needlessly under pressure against Brighton and Wolves, and we ought to have had one or two more today. So anyway, my question is do you think we need to be looking at getting someone in January who, if nothing else, can stick the ball in the net? A lot of us thought Suarez was merely a poacher before he came, but he offers so much more, often to his own detriment. His finishing can often be a little rushed, particularly after he's carved himself an opening. Kuyt can always chip in with a goal, but he seems to be preferred on the right side. Would keeping him permanently in the centre help things? Similarly, will Carroll be the man to turn draws into wins?
Good point. Hopefully Adam Morgan will make it through the ranks as that's exactly what he is. I think we have enough at present, we just need players to focus a little more in front of goal. Saying that a new addition in January wouldn't be a bad idea at all.
A combination of Kuyt, Carroll, Suarez and Bellamy is good enough up front but maybe a replacement for Kuyt next season.
Morgan is defo in the Fowler mould.Amazed hes not playin more reserves this year, sayin that I think hes still only 16
I agree that ,if used right, those are enough. Trouble is we use Kuyt and Bellamy wide a lot of the time, so perhaps they might lose a bit of composure in front of goal? They're both versatile, which is a bad thing as well as a good thing. The type of player we need to be looking at, if indeed we're looking at any, is one who is simply a front man and no more. Like Hernandez. He has one position and that's up front. Carroll fits this description at a basic level, but he's a different kind of player. A target man rather than a poacher. I can see him getting goals, but is he the man to nick one at the end of a match?
I don't think he'd be that cheap, having signed a new contract, and with Roy in charge... Plus i think he's suffering a bit from second season syndrome. He doesn't seem to have clicked so far.
Didn't he sign a new contract at West Brom? If he did, West Brom would probably ask for a lot of money. And he has been injured a lot lately...
Is he simply a poacher? I thought he was more of an all-rounder, of which we have plenty better than him already.
Morgan would be ideal, but I don't think he's ready for this season. A couple of season's time would be perfect for him though.
Odemwingies not as good as the strikers we have IMO. If we are lookin to get ANYONE in Jan, theres nobody in the prem who we could get, who would improve us If we get anyone in Jan, its gotta be from abroad.Maybe a Honda,Kagawa,Moussa Sissoko,Hazard,Navas,Gotze
I'd add Lucas Barrios to that list, particularly where poachers are concerned. Dortmund missed him against Arsenal. Mario Gomez would have been perfect if we'd got him. We'd have to pay 40m + for him now, with the form he's in.
I think sometimes Suarez can be over confident which isn't a bad thing, He had a great goal to game ratio in Holland where you have less time, I know he's been at Liverpool for about 9 months now but he still has a lot more to give in terms of goals, Sometimes it takes a year or 2 to adjust and start scoring goals while others hit the ground running (Drogba springs to mind) But luckily for us the lad is already creating and scoring goals and will only improve.
Carroll best bit of business we ever did! best bit of business the mackem b******s ever did - jordan henderson
