    This is a tough one.

Normally I would plump for the team goal against Wolves which Dempsey finished off perfectly. It was sublime football and a fantastic finish to match. Ruiz's against Everton was great technique but his goal against Bolton for me wasn't that great. In a position such as that one, the normal thing to do would be to either shoot hard and low past the keeper or go round him, it was innovative but the wrong choice.

I think AJ's was fortunate, more of a hit and hope.

I haven't made my mind up yet. Of the spectacular strikes, the cleanest one with the most difficult technique is probably AJ vs Wisla Krakow. Ruiz's against Everton is special, and not just because it was a rare case (this season) of me being there to see it in person. Dempsey vs Wolves is a great team goal, but not as impressive (other than in the number of passes) as Pog vs QPR.

So, at the moment I'm torn between Ruiz, AJ and Pog. Sorry Clint, you'll just have to make do with another player of the year award. I'm not sure how neither of DemPele's efforts made my short list either, but they don't.

By the way, well done Cottager for starting the 1000th thread on this board.

    ?

    Didn't he score?!

I'm torn between that one, his other chip and Pog v QPR.

He was one on one with the keeper, decides to stop and scoop the ball over the keeper. Not a lot of players do it because it's risky.

Result announced: Ruiz in first (vs Everton) and third (vs Bolton) with AJ squeezed inbetween. I might have made a case for Pog vs QPR ahead of Ruiz vs Bolton in third, but other than that I think the voting masses have got it about right.

    http://www.fulhamfc.com/Club/News/NewsArticles/2012/June/GoalOfTheSeason.aspx

As the club website doesn't allow multiple votes from one computer, I sacrificed my vote to my youngest son. The eldest voted for Ruiz against Everton (which won't surprise anyone who read my book!) and the youngest (via me on my computer at work) voted for Ruiz vs Bolton. I don't think his vote was intended to wind Bandit up, but the apple doesn't fall far from the tree!

I liked Ruiz' two goals ... audacious chips. Those are the kinds of goals, however, that drive managers crazy - i.e. what if he missed and we lost the game? You could just hearJol telling Ruiz, "Nice goal. Don't ever do it again."

Exactly, Captain. I would have loved to have seen Jol's face.

I think Dembele needs to shoot more next year. I don't care that he only got two or three goals in '11/'12. If he pulled the trigger just half as often as did Dempsey, he'd have had a bunch more goals. More importantly, Dembele shooting will keep defenders honest. If they know he only takes one shot every 5 games, they can play off him a little and wait for him to pass. But if he takes a shot or two every game, defenders will have to get up on him a little more.

Great point about Dembele, DR, assuming that he's still here come August. As for Ruiz, I'm happy for him to keep lobbing to his hearts content, as long as they keep going in. Somehow I suspect Jol does too. When we signed him, someone posted a Youtube compilation, and at least one of his goals for Twente was similar to the two we're talking about. I think it's one of his favourite party pieces. My kind of party!

There was a great stat derived from last season that Dembele had the 9th largest amount of accurate shots in the PL. I think he's shooting enough :)

Correct Bidley and so far as Fulham is concerned, second in terms of both 'total shots' (37) and 'on target' (22). Here's the link to all our stats -

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/fulham/4942862/Fulham-Football-Club-Statistics.html

This aspect of Dembele's game is a bit like that of Ruiz where the truth belies the myth. As well as being voted into 2 of the 3 top goal slots, Ruiz actually contributed/assisted in quite a few others we scored last year.

But, always a but, would like to see much more of the same from both next year.
